I absolutely can not begin to fathom where the British games industry would be today without this man.

There would be no Acorn, and subsequently no ARM. The whole computing industry would be very different without him.

Sad news, a proper inventor.

Mind, if Raspberry Pi were quick on this, a programmable spectrum mini would be in my Amazon basket right now.

This is sad news. A true eccentric inventor.

Ah, gooseberry fool. Changed my childhood, his ZX81 and Spectrum. I hate that he’s always linked to the bloody C5 by lazy journalists.

Used to spend ages just playing around in BASIC on my Spectrum. Copying code out of magazines and playing around with it, just felt so incredible that you could write a few lines of instructions to make magic happen on the screen.

Not a stretch to say that I owe my livelihood to the Spectrum getting me into computing back in the day

This is sad news

I’ve never owned a ZX Spectrum or played any of the games (to my knowledge at least, suppose I might have somewhere down the line) but he had a huge impact on the gaming industry in the UK.

He made gaming accessible to poor kids like me. If the Speccy hadn't been as cheap as it was then I don't think I'd have got one for Christmas.

Daley Thompson trending on Twitter because everyone’s tweeting about Decathlon on the Spectrum!

Same here. I remember when I was about 7yrs old copying code from a magazine to create a program that would display an analogue clock. It probably took me an hour to type but it worked!! That created the spark that eventually led to me becoming a software developer.

"A day in the life" on the speccy was a very shite game where you played as Clive.
Where would the world be without his inventions.

Never would have got into gaming were it not for the ZX Spectrum.

I once worked in the building where the ZX Spectrum was made.

Just posted similar in the Off Topic thread. My love of gaming can absolutely be traced back to him.

Funnily enough, my brother was actually given a ZX Spectrum+ one christmas in the 80's, to 'help him with his homework'
