Coming 2018

“It is the Golden Age of Piracy. Renegade captains command the most powerful weapons on Earth: warships. You are a pirate captain who has refused the king’s pardon and sailed from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, an untamed frontier full of lavish riches. However, these waters are also a battleground where far-reaching colonial empires, powerful trading corporations, and ruthless pirate gangs clash. In order to survive, you will have to build a lethal fleet, prey upon lucrative trade routes, and ally with other pirates in your endless struggle for supremacy.”

So, they listened from the poll that they asked ages ago.

I think it could be actually good, but it's a long way to go though.

Yeah - they listened to the incorrect majority who only wanted multiplayer! i would have preferred an AC IV style single-player pirate game. Is it me, am I old fashioned for liking single-player games?

No, I am the same and I would prefer the single player pirate game.

One thing I hope they let us do is raid coastal port towns. Black Flag had some fort raids, but if they want to nail the Pirates of the Caribbean feel, some actual port raids would be nice.

I'm glad they made this but I really hope this isn't multiplayer only. Ship combat in Black Flag was fun but I don't know if it's enough for an entire game.

Aye, I'm very much hoping for multiplayer to be entirely optional.

Also, sea shanties!

Today, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Ubisoft® announced that gamers will take command of their own warship to live the ultimate pirate experience alongside their friends and become a legend of the open-ocean in Skull & BonesTM. Skull & Bones will launch in Fall 2018 on PlayStation®4 Pro computer entertainment system, PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox One X and Windows PC.

With development led by Ubisoft Singapore,* Skull & Bones will take gamers to the Golden Age of Piracy where they will create their own unique pirate captains and sail through the beautiful yet treacherous Indian Ocean filled with rich merchant trade routes to loot. Whether it is on their own or as part of a pirate gang, gamers will take the helm of their powerful warship and lead their crew into the endless battle to rule the seas and become the deadliest pirate kingpin.

Skull & Bones is an online naval game that will take players across a dynamic, shared open-ocean that reacts to their actions and evolves to continuously challenge them. Building upon the studio’s naval gameplay expertise, Skull & Bones introduces an innovative wind system that gives gamers tactical opportunities to navigate more quickly, shoot further, hit harder, escape deadly blows, and position themselves to decimate their victims. Gamers will also be able to build their own fleet of ships, which can specialize in different battle conditions using the game’s extensive customization options.

“Skull & Bones is the game that our team has dreamed of building ever since we first set sail singing along to sea shanties and we are excited to finally share our vision here at E3,” said Justin Farren, creative director. “Thanks to our systemic living world, our gameplay innovations, a strong fantasy and the team’s commitment to support the game in the long term, we believe that Skull & Bones will bring players a unique experience allowing them to live the intriguing and thrilling life of pirates.”

In preparation for launch, Skull & Bones will conduct several live alphas and betas. Gamers interested in participating can sign up at http://www.skullandbonesgame.com/beta

Customize Your Pirate Experience:
Choose your captain, recruit your crew and build deadly ships.

Explosive Multiplayer:
Enter the Disputed Waters and fight for supremacy in a variety of game modes.

Dominate a Dangerous Open Ocean:
A shared open world that reacts as you plunder rich trade routes.

Naval Combat Refined:
Use your weapons, spyglass and even the wind to stalk and destroy your prey.

Play Solo or Coop:
Raid the Hunting Grounds alone or group with other players to hunt larger prey.

The way I see it is like this.

Simply replace mentions of Jurassic Park / dinosaurs with the transplanting of Black Flags ship combat.
Dr. Ian Malcolm is your typical gamer.
The lawyer is Ubisoft marketing team.
John Hammond is Ubisoft Management.

This could be a lot of fun, both solo and MP. It seems very much an extension of Black Flag, but I loved that. I know Mafro was a big fan of the sailing sections too.

Loves us all since 2008

PSA: This is a Ubisoft game, so they're going to pump it full of microtransactions and freemium garbage. Maybe not at first, but later on they'll add loot chests etc for player "convenience" or "choice".

So does this only involve sea battles, nothing on land?
