Media companies constantly raising their prices is *massively* frustrating. I hate them even more when they get customers to sign up to "contracts"... for which they can change the agreed pricing whenever they feel like it :x .

I noticed Sky have upped their contract terms to 18 months too.

NowTV is contract-free but costs more because of it. It's Sky Broadband just with a rebranded Sky router.

Rivals Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk have all announced price increases within the last year.

Another round of price rices for 2018 starts here!

Devon Live, The Sun, The Register wrote:BT Sport are to hike the cost its channels up by 33% for some customers – 15 times the rate of UK annual wage growth.

Currently, BT Broadband customers pay £7.50 a month for BT Sport channels, but this will jump to £10 in January 2018 – a 33% rise.

For Sky customers who have BT Sport without BT Broadband, charges will jump from £22.99 to £25.99 per month – a 13% rise. Both figures dwarf the 2.2% growth in weekly earnings seen by the average UK worker in the last year.

The latest price increases come just nine months after previous hikes from the TV and internet provider, in April this year. They’re also the third round of price increases BT has made in 18 months.

The last broadband price rise was just seven months ago, on 2 April. The previous one was in July 2016, making the January 2018 hike the third.

In Freesat’s study of 2,000 pay TV customers, while a third (36 per cent) warned that they would have to quit their contract if prices keep rising at the current rate, almost half (45 per cent) said they feel taken advantage of by constant hikes.

A further 34 per cent said they were confused as to why prices go up so regularly, while 35% said they feel powerless to argue.

In the Freesat study, 60 per cent of people with a sports channel subscription feel their service is overpriced, while one in four (27 per cent) said they don’t make full use of their service.

Previous research from Freesat also found that the majority of popular sporting events are available on free channels.

BT is in the process of writing to customers about the bill changes, which take affect from January 7.

Customers can expect to see their bills rise depending on the contract they have with BT, for example:

- Standard broadband customers will pay £24 extra per year

- Fibre broadband customers (Infinity 1) will pay £30 extra per year

BT is also putting up the cost of its unlimited anytime call packages.

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/11/0 ... ces_again/

Imagine paying £26 for BT Sport and another £28 for Sky Sports every month.

BT is also hiking the cost of calls and call features from 7 January:

Unlimited anytime landline calls package – rising from £8.99/mth to £9.50/mth.

Unlimited evening and weekend calls package – rising from £3.80/mth to £4/mth.

Landline call costs – calls to other landlines (including 0870 and 0845 numbers) will increase from 12p/min to 13p/min. The call set-up fee is rising from 21p/call to 22p/call.

Mobile call costs – calls to mobiles will increase from 16p/min to 17p/min. If you have anytime calls they'll increase from 8p/min to 8.5p/min.

1571 – will increase from £2.50/mth to £3/mth.

Paper bill charge – will increase from £2/mth to £2.50/mth.

If you've one calling feature, your price will rise from £4.50/mth to £5/mth.

If you've two to four calling features, your price will rise from £8.75/mth to £9.25/mth.

If you've five or more calling features, your price will rise from £11.75/mth to £12.25/mth.

Strawberry-floatin’ hell. Why is it that comms companies can just jack up their prices way above inflation every year? I am happy with my fibre broadband with BT, but there is no other option in my area. My mum and dad use BT’s basic broadband (again, the only option for them as fibre is not available) and the service is poor; so slow.

I feel like BT customers are paying through the nose because of the huge amounts of cash BT is splashing around on football :x .

At these prices you'd expect broadcast 4K as standard.

Just had my email from BT about the price increase "change".

I'm cool with it, though, because the email includes the line "We hope you'll enjoy the changes we're making." I'm excited about having this opportunity to pay more because reasons :toot: ...

Agreed, they should increase the cost of BT sport itself rather than passing the cost on to all of their services - I don't watch sports and shouldn't be paying towards the expense of broadcasting it.

If you've ever wondered what the Sky customer base now is for television, BARB's latest figures have it pegged at 8.85million for satellite and 1.23m users for NOW TV (way behind Amazon and Netflix on 3.82m and 7.34m respectively).

I'm not surprised, wpince you have it is hard to quite and freebies / freesat is a bit gooseberry fool in comparison and and going totally free using patchup and shiz on something like a fire TV is a bit of a ballache and above many people's ability.

Had an email the other day telling me my sky internet would go up by £1.01 (why the penny? That's just bizarre). This is the same Sky mind you, which purchased my custom from O2 without my permission, then increased my monthly price from £9.50 to £17.50 in just a couple of years.

I renegotiate my broadband with Sky every 12 or 18 months so Fibre has stayed at £10 (not including line rental, which does keep going up) for the past 5 years or so.

Do you have TV as well as broadband though? I don't have a TV package which i think is one of the reasons i'm being stung like this.

I do. It's supposed to be £20 but I got them down to £7.50ish. Just about worth it for access to Sky+/Sky Sports Mix/Atlantic.

It’s that time of year again, folks...

Now TV has raised the prices of its daily and weekly sports passes by up to £2.

The streaming company, which is owned by Sky, increased the cost of the following passes:

- The Sky Sports Day Pass has increased by 12.5% from £7.99 to £8.99.
- The Sky Sports Week Pass has increased by 15% from £12.99 to £14.99.

Rundown of Sky's upcoming price rises from April:

- Sky Entertainment is increasing from £20 a month to £22 if you're in contract; from £25 to £27 if not.
- Sky Cinema is increasing to £11 a month out of contract.
- Sky Broadband increasing by £1 a month for all customers.
- Sky Broadband Fibre increasing by £2 a month for all customers.
- SkyQ from £12 to £13 a month for all customers.
- Sky Talk Evening and Weekends to £5 a month.
- Sky Talk Anytime to £10 a month.

Those on percentage deals rather than fixed price agreements will also see their prices rise accordingly.
