‪Sky, Virgin Media and BT all increase their prices - 2023 edition (pg1‬7)

Millions of Sky broadband and TV customers will see their bills rise from this April, commencing from April Fools' Day.

Feel like this was quite deliberate :lol:

I once had the mindset of 'I can store Sky programming indefinitely on the Hard Drive!' but I think I got through 4 or 5 Sky+ boxes in the end, and with no way of being able to transfer programming to a new box, that thought process died pretty quickly.

The willy waving contest of now being able to record 5 or 7 programmes at once or whatever silly number it is makes me laugh though. I've never had that many programmes that I've wanted to watch clash in my ENTIRE LIFE.

Yeah I can understand the appeal of something like Sky+ when it first came around, it was a simple and well implemented feature that gave people what they needed.

I had my own DVR back in the day that basically did the same thing for terrestrial so was never bothered and since I watch virtually everything on some form of streaming service these days there is basically zero appeal in Sky+ anymore.

And yeah the idea that someone would have 7 shows that they absolutely cannot miss airing at the exact same time is insane! :lol:

I know Amazon does have sport/football now, but let’s just look at the basic Sky package

Sky Entertainment, the base TV package, will rise by £2/mth to £24.
Sky TV Multiscreen will rise by £1/mth to £14.
Sky HDTV will rise by £1 to £6/mth.

So the basic TV channels in HD and more than one room is £44 a month. Not including movies & sport.

Disney+ is £5.99, Netflix is £8.99 (HD, multiple screen version), Amazon is £7.99, NOWTV entertainment is £7.99. That’s £31 a month for all the TV and movie they offer. And you’ll get sport and free Amazon deliveries.

Sky is a strawberry floating disgrace.

When we moved house in September we never bothered about getting a TV package.

I'd say 90% of what we watch now is through streaming services.

When I looked at it, the only TV shows we watched were all on Freeview channels anyway.

So we didn't sign up for it and honestly we've not missed it at all. The only downside is that we can't pause/rewind live stuff and that can be rectified by buying a wee Freeview box.

I pay 15.50 for the full max virgin package but if I was a regular customer I would not even slightly consider it

why anyone has anything other than an internet pipe and a usenet subscription or netflix or whatever totally baffles me

My mum has Sky+ but just cannot grasp the concept of pausing/rewinding live TV.

"Oh, quick! There's an ad break. I've been bursting for the toilet!"

Versus

"Oh, I need the toilet. Let me just pause this and head on up."

There's a lot more thrill in the former, even if no toilet break should ever take more than four minutes.

Been getting absolutely hounded by Virgin media sales calls lately, where they phone up, saying they're calling to review my account, then ask me to confirm security information to them over the phone, even though they called me.

Having looked up the number, it seems like it actually is Virgin, but I can't believe they're basically using phishing tactics on an actual sales call.

Even so, I'm not interested in buying anything more from them, and the sooner Openreach can get FTTP here, the better.

Yeah I've noticed Virgin are pretty bad for that. They call you and then start asking security questions. I stopped getting them since I switched from Virgin Media consumer to Virgin Media Business for my internet connection.

Just had an email confirming Openreach have begun installing fibre to the local area. :wub:

I'll finally have an alternative to overpriced Virgin, or at least be able to believability threaten to leave them so they might offer me a better deal.

It’s that time of the year again…

BT has said most customers will see bills rise by more than 9% from the end of March as households are squeezed by cost of living pressures.

The telecoms giant said broadband and phone bills will jump by 9.3% following a "dramatic increase" in data usage over the last few years.

Affected customers will pay an extra £3.50 a month on average from 31 March.

But households on certain packages, as well as those claiming benefits, will be exempt.

All these price rises are turning into a real nightmare. I’m currently paying around £32 for BT (landline and broadband).
