I have no idea if any of the extra content actually installed properly when I loaded this up yesterday, seemed to start downloading the adventurer’s backpack but got stuck at 0% for about 5 minutes so I restarted the game, guess I’ll have to go into the creation club and hope I can download the free stuff from there?

Edit, got them downloaded now, will be starting a potentially final run of Skyrim over this weekend :toot:

Edit 2, got a game started, went for a Khajiit and already going full stealth archer :datass: one of the creation club things makes it so you can craft a backpack, one of them gives a 10% boost to bow damage, obviously not a massive increase but a nice one at less than an hour into the game.

I might start this on GamePass and buy the mod bit afterwards if I plan on sticking with it. Will any mods I select integrate seemlessly with a save file created previous to installing the mods?

I’m not sure how mods would carry across as the anniversary edition makes quite a lot of the mods on the SE not compatible with the AE, when I loaded a save up it mentioned about disabled mods, but I have no idea how the effects of a disabled mod might carry over to the AE with different mods? I just started a fresh game to be on the safe side with no mods, so far I’m really liking the creation club content they’ve made official, the different style for the leather armour is far better and the backpacks are a neat touch too. The load times are night and day though, really quick now, graphically it looks the same from what I can tell except maybe the standard lighting is a little better? Hard to say though. There also seems to be a house outside of Whiterun too? I’ll be heading there when I get to Whiterun.

Personally I’d say it’s well worth £15 but I’m a sucker for more Skyrim so probably not the best test of whether it is good value or not

Digital Foundry have taken a look at the updated Skyrim running on new gen consoles. Key points: 4K (PS5, XSX) / 1080p (XSS), 60 FPS, significantly faster loading, very few (no?) texture updates.

I also began a fresh install of Skyrim SE with only the base AE update, (as far as I can tell that is unavoidable), and have been modding with the latest SKSE build with, at least so far, no issues. ENBs are no good though.

Good to hear mods still work on it, what are ENBs though? Hope you’re enjoying your fresh playthrough too! Trying a new build/play style or playing as a stealth archer?

ENB is a graphic mod that enhances post processing effects to make games look better graphically

There's lots of different ENBs (no, I don't actually know what ENB stands for), that can give your Skyrim a tailor made feel/look/mood/richness to whatever kind of overall build you're going for. I suppose the best way I can describe an ENB is that it's a bit like applying a template to a photograph; warm, rich, sepia, that sort of thing. Some are quite subtle, others are quite stark. Want your Skyrim to look more like Dark Souls, but without tonnes of mods? An ENB will do the job.

As for character, well unfortunately, as you know, Skyrim classes are a bit naff so I've once again opted for the stealth archer with improved animations for said class and melee combat (I tend to play 3rd person). That said I've also dropped in a few improved magic animations to encourage me to spell cast a bit more.

Generally yes, but as Rob says AE is causing a few issues with some older mods. That said I believe that most of the issues stem from SKSE not being fully updated for AE, but if you're playing on console then as SKSE isn't an option then I think you shouldn't run into too many problems.

Thanks for the info. I might see how I get on and buy the extra content if it grabs me (again).

Well it won't break the bank. For me part of the joy I get from modding Skyrim, or any game, is the trial & error that ensures you have the game that you want to play.

Yeah, as a non pc gamer, modding isn’t something I’m familiar with. I can see the potential though.

According to a work colleague the latest SKSE update supports some ENBs. Will investigate this evening.

No, not yet. I just picked up a PS5, so its fallen way down the list of things to do. Being Bethesda it will always be there though (on Game Pass), and I can just buy the additional content if the mood takes me.

I noticed the old Skyrim general thread is locked, so I'm going to gooseberry fool post memes here instead.

That channel is full of excellent Elder Scrolls content.

Started playing this yesterday (Nintendo Switch) and I’m really liking it so far. I did a side quest tonight (Bleak Falls Sanctum with the Golden Claw) and I got a ‘Power word’ or something  what does this actually do?

Also, used Amiibo’s and now I’m rocking the Master Sword, Hylian Shield and Champions Tunic :datass:

Glad you’re enjoying it! The first run of Skyrim is really special in my opinion

The Zelda items are quite neat too!
