PostSmackdown vs Raw 09 - Out Friday
by HailToTheKingBaby! » Mon Nov 03, 2008 9:17 pm

I have this preordered as I buy them every year but forgot this was out this week with all the other big released lately, didn't realise it was coming till I just got my despatch email from shopto (early in the week too - weird..).

Anyone else buying this or has everyone put it on the back burner due to the slew of AAA releases?

The demo seemed slightly improved over last years but basically more of the same - be interesting to see what the career mode's like this year. Not read many previews so not sure what else new to expect. Jericho being back in will be good though (assuming he is back in - he better be or I'll sulk).

It is going to suck ass and I wont be buying it. Even if Gears and LBP weren't coming out I wouldn't buy it. Heck I wouldn't buy it if it were the only game coming out between now and christmas...

I'm not buying it on release like I have done in the past - last year's was a completely shambolic broken mess, and I've yet to see any concrete evidence to show that this has been rectified for the new version.

Once it hits £25 in a few weeks or so though, then I'll take the plunge. In the meantime TNA iMPACT! is more than enough to fill my wrestling game needs, as limited as that is.

It can't be too bad. Probably won't be much different from last years barring the new focus on tag teams but they always play ok if not amazingly.

I think if the TNA game improves next year then this may be my last year of buying Smackdown but for the last few years it's been one of the games I keep going back to for months on and off in between other releases and I'm sure this one will be the same.

They really need to give it a drastic overhaul soon though, it's worse than FIFA et al for yearly updating with little changes and if they add some more moves/wrestlers/modes to Impact then the TNA game could easily overtake this based on the gameplay in their first go this year.

Having read Pells review in Xbox World this month, it seems like it should be a decent game and that several issues from last year have been fixed, I may purchase it this weekend, depending on the price, if not I may wait a couple of weeks for it to be cheapish.

It's £32 on shopto at the moment for 360 version.

Done some reading round since I posted this. The promise of DLC for new wrestlers is good so long as they've not held them back from the disk as an excuse for adding them as downloads later. Inferno match I'd forgotten about, looks like it might be fun.

Whatever happened to the "Legends" WWE game they announced ages ago? Has that been canned now or are they taking their time with it? Wonder if it'll just be Smackdown again with an old roster or if they'll build it from the ground up with a different team.

I'm really torn wether to ge this or not - The demo was solid neough, but didn't feel any different from last year, but iMPACT has left me wanting more from a wrestling game.

With LBP out this week, I can afford toget another game to pass the time over the weekend... Hmmm anyone know of this going cheap (beside Shitto)

Have you had problems with shopto then mate?

I've ordered over 30 games over the last couple of years or so from them and had no problems at all. It's also in stock with them so if you ordered tonight you should get it wednesday.

Other than that, "The Hut" have it for just under £32:

Only had a couple of orders off them but they seemed ok..

I will be getting on release day as always and it should hopefully be good with an update in graphics and a nearly perfect roster, just hope the gameplay is good.

Assuming it turns up tomorrow, I'll post some impressions tomorrow evening after I've sat down with it a bit. Assuming I can tear myself off of LBP (also assuming that turns up tomorrow).

Shopto will not let me register with them. Their customer service was so strawberry floating appauling when I tried to gtet the issues with signing up sorted, that I'll never ever bother with them.

I'm tempted maybe to go in store, trade in iMPACT and use my reward card to get it quite cheap however (£17.50 on card and maybe £15 for iMPACT hopefully)

I wasn't sold on the demo (PS3) although I may consider it if I see it cheap at some point. It just doesn't seem to have changed that much since I last played the series (the original Smackdown vs Raw on PS2) which is a shame as back in the day the new Smackdown game used to be one of my gaming highlights of the year.

Strange. On the few occasions I've emailed them with order queries etc.. they've always been really quick and helpful. Understandable it'd put you off using them though if they were that bad at sorting you out.

I went to sell a couple of games in GameStation a week ago - they offered me £14 cash or £20 I think it was for trade in total for Too Human and Mercenaries 2. Needless to say I declined. Went to Forbidden Planet and got £40 trade in for the pair.

Not sure if GAME follow Game Stations trade in price policy being owned by the same company but it so, Forbidden Planet might be worth a look if you've one nearby (though obviously won't be able to use reward card there).

To be fair, that applies to most games these days.

I'm giving this a miss this year. Bought the last couple as I was very pleased to have this series on my Xbox (before I had the PS3). Now I think two on the trot is enough s I reckon I'll skip until next year.

Wrestling is gay. Big muscle men in little tight shorts rolling around with each other. Not that there anything wrong in that if thats the way you swing.

Now I always buy the games, I'll get this one no doubt although the demo did'nt sell me, its being a fan of the franchise, still hoping for the next installment from Here Comes The Pain as I'm not a fan of the Smackdown vs Raw series direction. The game looks very cartoony in my view this time around.

WWE.COM already has an unlockable code for attitude era Y2J!!!

So will the hut deliver before release date? I'm tempted but then again I might just buy it on the day.

Even though I hate wrestling, I love these games, and have owned every Smackdown game to date. Can't afford to buy it straight away, so I'll probably rent it at first, then buy it when it's cheaper, and I have some cash.

Can you change your target indicator in this? They removed that feature last year for some reason.
