So is this as lazy and gooseberry fool as last years edition? Have they taken out more features to make it worse?

I'd say this is the best version since the game moved to the 360.

It has a career mode as always (not tried it though so can't comment how good it is). Road To Wrestlemania is a nice addition giving some of the main stars their own little fully voiced story mode. HHH's is very good, Jericho's wasn't bad either.

Has some nice new online features including video sharing etc.. and some nice little presentation improvements.

Is a bit easy on Normal or below as has been said though that might be partly due to me having played almost all the versions of this over the years and it's all mostly the same basic gameplay with a few tweaks.

The career mode seems very, very basic. I've only had a few matches, but there doesn't seem to be an overlying story to it or anything, just a series of matches on your 'belt path' (I'm on Intercontinental with a CAW).

Slightly disappointed in that sense actually, I really enjoyed the story based careers of some of the earlier games. I haven't checked out the Road to Wrestlemania yet, which will have that story element, but it's a shame you can't seem to have a plot with a CAW.

I guess it's because people complained about only having certain wrestlers in career mode in the past combined with the complications of doing voiceovers for everyone. I guess that why they've simplified career mode a bit but then put the Road To Wrestlemania bits in to make up for it.

I'd say from the two I've played, those in themselves are more fun than the career modes of past games and by the time you've played through them all (HHH's has two paths too so to see everything you need to play it twice). There's also a co-op one where one person plays as Batista and one as Rey.. not tried that yet though.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. A lot of the previous games had the same career paths for some of the less known wrestlers, so I can understand the thinking. Just on a personal level, creating a wrestler was always one of my favourite things about Smackdown, so a bespoke 'created' career would have been ace. That's more wish fulfillment than a genuine criticism though I guess.

I've not dived into the CAW mode much yet. Quite fancy having a go with the Create-A-Finisher mode though so will dive in.

Achievements all look fairy easily getable this time - doesn't seem to have any of the stupid online ones.

Pissing game! First time ever i've npot recieved a pre-order on the thrusday form them.

odd thing is, I get a disaptched e-mail yesterday, but this afternoon got something about them being #1 on pre-orders and as soon as my card payment was processed game would be disaptched. Yet the game has been confirmed as dispatched on the site.

Hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow, though i'm not optimistic about that now sadly

Presume like last year - £45 Gamestation - hence I had £40 out and nearly choked when I got to the till as no price was on the box. I swiftly left in rage at the price and waltzed right into Grainger Games to pick it up for almost £10 cheaper - £36.

Hopefully I can do the same today, although I may go to argos for 10% discount from my uncle if its still only £40.

It's £37.99 in Gamestation. Just bought it on the 360.

Seems alright, although since I skipped last year's effort, it seems pathetically slow compared to 07, and the controls seem to be pointlessly complex.

And, did they only bother rendering HHH? Most characters look like gooseberry fool. Maria is...mental looking.

Oh, so far, I've set HHH's music to This Charming Man, camped up his entrance, changed his finisher to a series of eye pokes and a THUMB TO THE NECK (I call it the Tiger Driver), jobbed him, set him on fire and made him drop the title. I think I'm going to change most of his moveset to something more cerebral, like moves that only work over the fingers and eyes.

Oh, and the inferno match is a bit toss TBH.

For those interested, the free DVD HMV are giving out consists of...

3 trailers for WWE PPV DVDs (One Night Stand, Night of Champions, Great American Bash)
2 short video packages for Triple H & Shawn Michaels
Video package building up to Summerslam 2006
DX Vs The McMahons from Summerslam 2006 (in its entirety - including JR spending the entire match selling the beating HHH received before the match...only for Triple H to come back & kill everything that moves, thus making the announcers look like utter morons)
Another short video package as to why the fans love DX

Totals about 38 minutes.

This is £29.99 in Argos by the way on 360, PS3 and Wii. I'm giving it a miss but I thought I'd give you a heads up on that, decent price.

This is pretty good. Very easy on defaults but I can knock it up after I get some achievements. Don't know how it compares to last year but it's better than the last I played, 2006.

This is in real need of a huge facelift. Its the same game I played years ago.

They should completely rewrite the code. It shouldn't require lock on. You throw a punch and it just grazes them and another wrestler it should hit them both, the closer the punch is felt the more damage given. You throw a wrestler into a run towards the ropes, but there is someone knocked out on the ground or a table in the way they shouldn't just be guided round the obstacle or stop. They should just crash into what ever is on the ground, trip over it etc.

I just hate the way everything is lock on. You knock a wrestler out and they fall onto a corner of a table they should hit the corner and role off. But on this they will fall down and the table/wrestler will just push each other to new positions within the boundaries of the ring.

You run round doing the helicopter arms the arms should hit whatever they come in contact with.

Hard to explain but I hope you know what I mean. Rather than it all have to be locked on and moves missing because your not locked on it should all just happen.
