Any fans here? Apart from Lost, it's been my fave show. It's no secret that the season just gone was mostly terrible. I hope they can get back on track for the final season. It's going to be a bit strange with no Lex Luthor and Lana only appearing as a guest in a few episodes though!

And in the finale, will we see Clark in the famous red & blue costume?

Season 8 starts on 18th September so I should have my hands on the first episode by the 19th at the latest

I've watched one or two episodes with the g/f as she's a fan, but I can't say it holds a tourch to shows like Lost, BSG, 24 or Prison Break.

I'm looking forward to seeing the bastardised version of Doomsday they have planned. :fp: :x

Anyway, as for the season as a whole...I'm hoping they'll finally give his flying abilities, they've teased us long enough. :x

Surely Kara will finally get around to teaching him? Her character annoyed me in season 7, she seemed to blend in with the rest of the human race far too easily. Still would though.

Hopefully with the original show runners leaving the show it might inject some freshness into the show. It has its moments (usually the mythology centric episodes of the earlier seasons)

One complaint is, there never seems to be any repurcussions in this show.

The status quo is restored by the end of every episode almost. Things from the previous seasons finale are explained away and dealt with in one episode and then it's normal service as usual. It's bizarre.

This season we have the beginnings of the Lois/Clark relationship, Doomsday as a Paramedic or Bartender (either is ridiculous), and Green Arrow as a regular.

I hate the shows version of Green Arrow. The Year One Mini-series makes him such a badass (SuperMax looks to do the same) and this show shows him as some leather wearing hybrid of Robin Hood and James Bond.

As far as I'm concerned, it started when he caught her falling out the helicopter ;)

I guess. But they've said up until now it's been this bickering almost brother/sister relationship. That'll change this season apparently.

I guess it's been forced upon them with Kristin Kreuk buggering off. Unless he was to get it on with Chloe which would be all sorts of wrong.

I'm pretty sure she won't be returning for Season 8.

A lot of fans supposedly hated the Kara character. (ghey)

There was talk a while back of introducing Chloe into continuity in the comics.

They do seriously need to wrap the show up soon. I've always had a potential end scene in my head. There was a John Byrne re-telling of the the Superman Origin a few years back and it had this great scene at the end of Issue One.

It's basically him putting on the costume for the first time. You don't see all of it at first.

You see the boots, the S, the cape fluttering etc.

Up until season 2/3, the ending I had in my head was of Clark throwing the crystal and entering the Fortress of Solitude but of course the fortress became part of Smallville at the start of season 5.

Another ending I thought about was a re-enactment of the helicopter scene, where Clark became "Superman" for the first time. But they seem to want to do their own thing with Smallville so I hope the finale meets expectations. I'm sure it will.

I've seen seasons 1 - 6, but didn't get round to watching any of 7

With season 8 starting soon I'll have to get round to catching up, because I usually really enjoy this show.

Aside from the great episode "Persona" season 7 was pretty poor. Season 8 can only be saved by having Brainiac in every episode.

Spoilers...

Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin:

- Apparently, the end of the season will please fans of Smallville.

- Turns out DC actually gets all the Smallville scripts for them to look at.

- This season, they reimagined Doomsday as a metaphor and gave him a face (Doomsday is played by Sam Witwer).

- This season they will introduce other DC superheroes like Plastic Man (who should appear in episode 2) and if I’m not mistaken, a character called Maxima who is a goddess that needs to mate but she can’t mate with humans (I’ll let you guess the rest, his name starts with a C.)

- This year’s other new character is Tess Mercer played by Cassidy Freeman. Tess is the VP for Luthor Corp. She will take over Lex’s place at the Daily planet. She is going to search for Lex Luthor and will realize that Clark might be involved with his disappearance.

- Doomsday will first appear in episode 2 as his human version, Davis Bloome.

- Lana will return, but unfortunately it might be bad timing.

- So far no Lex news, they are trying to work something out with Michael Rosenbaum to get him to appear this season.

- DC supervillain Legion will come to Smallville this season.

- They also mentioned that we would never actually see Jor-El on Smallville, for the simple fact that Marlon Brando did too good of a job and they cannot imagine someone else portraying him.
Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders:

- When asked why Clark doesn’t fly yet, they mentioned that a scene had been cut out from last season where Kara tries to teach Clark how to fly and she actually mentions how it could be a mental block.

- This season will continue in the transition for Clark to become Superman.

- This season they will be a lot in Metropolis as Clark starts to work at the Daily Planet.

- This season we also will start to see Clark saving more strangers (like Superman).

- Doomsday is a different take but the same mythology. It actually ties into something that happened last season.

- Doomsday is sort of a tragic story because you see someone that emerges as a villain but doesn’t start out that way.

Justin Hartley (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow):

- Justin Hartley trusts the writers and has never had any problems so far with what has been written for him.

- He thinks the appeal to the character is because of the writing, his is just the face of it.

- This season, they explore the origin of Green Arrow, how he was stranded on an island and had to learn how to survive.

- In the premiere episode, we also get a few characters back like Aquaman and Black Canary.

- Justin Hartley mentioned how impressive the new sets are this season on Smallville. Turns out he actually gets lost on the Daily Planet set, because it’s huge.

- Justin Hartley did some research for his role as the Green Arrow. He mentioned how he wanted to know the whole mythology of the character.

- Turns out there are talks of bringing a sidekick in.

- This season Green Arrow will look at everything he has lost. It is a big burden for him and he wonders if it was all worth it. He starts a downward spiral and he goes back to womanizing.

- Justin Hartley mentioned how the guy with the costume goes down and the guy without (Clark) goes up towards getting “the costume.”
Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan):

- Allison Mack seemed happy that they were bringing new blood to the show this season.

- As for her relationship with costar Tom Welling, after 7 years, she says that they can finish each others’ sentences.

- This season there is a new love interest for Chloe as well as a potential wedding, a new job, and new powers.

- And turns out this Fall, Allison Mack will find herself behind the camera to direct an episode.
Sam Witwer (Doomsday) and Cassidy Freeman (Tess Mercer):

- Sam Witwer read about Doomsday in order to prepare for the part. He did mention once again how they have a different interpretation of the character in Smallville.

- Sam Witwer talked about how his character’s story is really sad. It’s about a guy (Davis Bloome) who deteriorates the more he learns about himself.

- Davis Bloome (who will become Doomsday) is a paramedic from Metropolis, who, turns out, starts a friendship with Chloe. He comes from the foster system, but is a really nice guy.

- At the beginning of the season, Davis Bloome blacks out more and more and decides to find out what he’s doing during those blackouts. When he finds out how awful it is, he deteriorates.

UPDATED 8/24/08: Laura Vandervoort revealed at the 2008 FanExpo in Toronto, Canada that she will be returing to Smallville for an episode to wrap up her storylines. Her episode shoots in October, which means it will probably land somewhere between #9 and #11 of the season. Sadly, Michael Rosenbaum has given no indication that he will be returning, and he has revealed that he is currently in negotiations for a film role. Micheal will not be retuning until he decides to come back, to guest star.

From WatchWithKristin:

Meredith in Houston: Hey, Kristin! You seem to be ignoring Smallville lately. Any juicy scoop to share?

Just had a long, juicy talk with new Smallville executive producer Darren Swimmer, and he told me that there will definitely be a Chloe-Jimmy wedding, but that it does not go according to plan. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a bloody mess.

Doomsday goes off!! This is going to be awesome!

I preferred the earlier seasons where every episode would involve Pete Ross aka Sam Jones III running up to Clark in an out of breath fashion, and then driving away in his car.

I'm looking forward to Season 8 as I do with every season of Smallville but I'm not sold on the villains they've got lined up. Is this confirmed as the final season?
