Obviously your Zelda's and Mario's are classics, but some stuff like Mega Man X and Donkey Kong Country seem really poor by comparison. Perhaps I just need to give them a bit more time...

 :fp:

Yes...you need to give them more time than a 10 to 15 minute bash on each...This is the problem with getting 21 games at once.

Focus on one or two games, complete them, then move onto the next. You won't get anything out of the games by playing all of them for a few minutes...

Obviously I'm not writing anything of yet, but as you say there's 21 games - giving each one a quick go to see what grabs me felt like a sensible way to find which games to invest more time in initially. Plus this was one way to encourage myself to avoid simply playing SMW and ALTTP all over again!

That said I went back to DKC this evening and have given it a good couple of hours now, it still seems like a very shallow game. I'm sure it was amazing to look at back in the day but it feels like there is very little going on gameplay wise.

I used to love Donkey Kong, but replaying it on this...well it's lost it's charm somewhat. I think the main qualm i have with it and many Snes games is LIVES.

Why is every fooking reward lives?

I collect KONG, i get a life. I collect baloons I get a life. I get the shiny bonus golden statues, I get a BONUS.....which gives me more lives. Bloody lives.

Anyone else had issues with the saving on this thing?

It's happened to me 3 or 4 times now and I can't do that strawberry floating bridge and cave world on super mario world again.

SO basically, I have in game clicked' save and continue' after defeating little boss face kooper twat.
And then i've hit reset to oversave my old save.

And everytime, even after taking time to think about it and try to sort it. IVE Loaded my old save back in stupid strawberry floating cave.

And my progress is gone!

I go out of the game and access it the normal way(not through power save), and i'm back in the cave again!

I know I'm doing something wrong when trying to power save, that's obvious, pressing y or something...but it's so so so simple to do this, and the fact that i've saved it in the actual game should surely mean it'll keep the save?

I'm not playing that bridge land again, I've done it too much, I'm moving onto a different game.

Love this machine

These games have no right looking this good, crisp and vibrant on a current tv.

Great stuff playing with those extension cables lagamorph reccomended too, very easy to forget they're wired.

Just started secret of mana and me and the wife are going to play it all co op.

It's ace eh. Not sure if I'll add more games to it because it's nice not being overwhelmed with choice for now but I definitely recommend the mod just to get the reset through the controller. Playing FF III/VI mainly and it's brilliant.

After modding mine and putting on the games from the NES mini as well I've found myself playing more of those games than the SNES selection!

Going to use the opportunity to play earlier entries in the series that are featured by default - currently working through Zelda and Metroid 1 so I can build up to playing the SNES entries with a bit more recent context!

Still in stock over and hour later.

That’s because opportunists realise that there is no money to be made on these things on eBay any more.

The only reason the NES and SNES Minis sold out instantly was because of the scalpers. Now stocks are regular, they generally remain in stock for a decent amount of time.

Haha. That put me off playing it for about 5 years. Then one day I put it on and played through to completion in an hour or so. Maybe give your hand a wee rest. Just not a five-year rest!

What makes it worse is how they incorporated that jump into Mario 64 and made it really easy, and it has since made its way into the New Super Mario series, and is a piece of cake. I could feel the membrane on my Snes pad weakening the more I hammered it left to right.

Nah, not slating it at all. It’s a delicious, bastard-hard challenge. But wow, what a difficulty spike! I seriously left it unfinished from 1995 to about 2000 just because I lost patience with it. Probably says more about my gaming habits than anything!

Said this before in here I think, I had zero trouble with the wall jump in the 3DS VC version of Super Metroid but it took me quite a few tries to nail it down in the SNES Mini version and even then I was messing up a lot. Not sure what the big difference was but it was weird.
