While I may have been away for a few months I haven't forgotten that many of you enjoyed contributing to one of my a fun threads every now an then; from your favourite RPGs to your absolute must have fighting games...(cheers, by the way).

Personally I'm still very much in the 'not buying straight away' camp. Between going through my back cat and the possibility of mid-gen upgrades I'm in no rush to jump straight into the next generation. At the very most a small upgrade for the PC, but even that isn't entirely necessary as my current rig has at least a couple of years left in it for delivering the goods at a commendable level.

So, next gen, what's the plan? Straight off the bat or wait and see how things play out?

I built a new PC a couple of weeks ago though I carried my GTX1070 over for now. Will probably upgrade to a RTX 30-series card when ray tracing is actually worth it and doesn't tank performance by such a noticeable margin.

I may get one of the consoles but it'll probably be in the second or third year. An upgraded Switch would be a day one purchase however.

Is the Switch Pro actually a thing or still just a rumour? (I've not really been keeping up with current gaming news of recent)

I'm certainly buying both a PS5 and Xbox Scarlet at launch and if Nintendo decide to make an upgraded Switch I may get that as well.

I'm all in for next gen and I can't wait.

No Switch Pro yet though I'm hopeful for one at some point. There is a slight refresh to the standard Switch alongside the Switch Lite that improves battery life quite dramatically through efficiency gains.

Yeah I read about the Lite version (which almost tempted me!). So the Pro version remains unconfirmed at this point. Unlike MS & Sony, Nintendo are so hard to judge. More than every these days I would say.

I'll be waiting to see what games catch my eye before deciding to take the leap.

I'll probably adopt a PS5 in the first year or so, if all goes well. Battlefront 3 would be great, but it's just not on the cards yet, according to DICE. A Horizon sequel would make me very eager to get in on the action.

Nintendo will need to pull off a miracle to draw me back in. I just can't engage with their stuff anymore; Metroid's sci-fi world feels incoherent, confusing and shallow, each new Zelda grabs me less than the last, F-Zero is a distant memory, and Mario has entirely lost its joy. The company's online strategy feels confused and it just... It's a company I can't engage with anymore.

Microsoft will need a raft of killer IPs aimed directly at my interests to draw me in. I don't see that happening, but I feel like they might buy the Metro devs, so who knows?

PS5 day one with a few remastered games i suspect. Really excited for this and may even take part in a launch day midnight special so that i can tick that off my list. Dreamcast was my only in store launch day purchase, but that wasn’t a midnight one. I want to get a ps5 and do the banderas pose in cringe fashion.

Switch Pro if its a major upgrade, otherwise i am out. Had enough of nintendo this generation and just don’t like the direction they are going in.

Xbox Two no chance unless they bag some exclusives like say gta or the next witcher. Will be interesting to see which one is more powerful, but think it will come down to the games as per usual. They need something big at launch, but i feel most people are already heavily invested into the ps eco system to want to switch now. I would have said a halo game would launch well, but it hasn’t been the same since the first one anyway, which was a masterpiece.

These days i normally leave it 12-18 months after launch, i only tend to bother when a game i really want comes out on the new console.

Oh and like the last couple of gens, it will be Sony or not at all.

I don't plan on jumping into the next gen at launch. I suspect that "Pro" / "X" versions will arrive around the two to two-and-a-half year mark and - at the moment, anyway - I think I'll wait for them. I hope that the Sony and Microsoft machines get an even share of the market; it'll help drive up quality and maybe keep a reign on pricing. I will definitely be choosing just one format.

I'll be holding off until at least 12 months after launch I think. I barely get any time to play my PS4 these days so just because there's suddenly a PS5 out isn't going to change that, sadly.

Will be Sony all the way as well, backwards compatibility is going to be a major appeal in that regard.

My understanding is that's it's likely the switch Pro rumours were because of the more efficient model, so in my mind a pro version is now unlikely. Which is a shame, because I'd be all over that.

This gen I waited a couple of years and I think Ill do the same for the next gen. That may change if the Xbox 2 is backwards compatible with everything and game pass is stocked from day 1, but right now Im happy to wait.

My plan at the moment is PS5 at or around launch, with Xbox at some point. When I dip into the Xbox is dependant on what exclusives they are able to put out.

I've barely got started on the current generation, bar a couple of PSVR games. I have a PS4 that I've hardly touched. Will be a good few years before I play anything next-gen, if at all.

To wait. Probably for at least 2 years. I've got a huge to play pile, not to mention plenty of games I haven't yet bought but want to. And the Switch isn't going anywhere either, I expect that will be going strong into 2022. At which point I'll probably buy a PS5, unless Microsoft has really managed to change the game with First Party exclusives.

Switch is the only console I've bought at launch. A new home console needs next-gen exclusives I want before I'm going to buy it.

I'd be selling my PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, maybe a week or 2 before the release of the new machines to try and get a better price back than leaving it last day, with the monies obviously going towards the newer machines, day 1 for sure with PS5 and hopefully the same for Xbox One Two.

Depends if Xbox launches with Game Pass and new titles from day one. If it does then sure, the cost won't be quite as prohibitive as previous generations (no game or controller add-ons required).
