Are there many of us in the Ruined Life club? Have to admit, I've ignored this thread pretty much entirely until now, so I only know of other parents from references in other threads. I need to learn the ropes so I can gang up on non-parents and tell them how tired I am, and start all my posts with "As a dad..."

When we talk about good sleeping habits, is that just literally sticking to a schedule so it's always nap/bed time at the same point every day?
You can tell I have absolutely no idea

Ours was an absolute nightmare with sleep, we had real issues with him and ended up doing a course with a sleep consultant. A few months ago he'd absolutely refuse to go to sleep if he wasn't in someone's arms (which you can imagine is very unpractical) and now as I type this, he's asleep in his cot next door as good as gold, so she definitely helped us a lot. There's lots of things you can do, but consistency with schedule and routine goes a long way, as well as not teaching bad habits-it was our fault he was reliant on sleeping on someone. Of course, some babies are no issue with their sleep at all, and will sleep fine anywhere, it's a bit of a lottery!
I wouldn't worry too much though, you pick up the basics really quickly. As an overgrown manchild who didn't want to grow up (as my wife affectionally calls me), even I managed to get the hang of it....
