So after being discharged last Wednesday, we managed a week at home before having to bring him back into hospital last night. His breathing is laboured again, and I've just been with him for another ultrasound, and it looks like the cyst is already refilling, so it's back to putting pressure on his airways.

We've spotted it early this time, so there's currently no need for additional oxygen or anything, but now we're waiting to see what the next steps are, most likely a repeat of the same procedure from before.

He's great in himself currently, so that's something, but he's just back to being very tired a lot of the time now that he's working harder to breathe again.

:simper:

Discharged tonight so we can take him home for the weekend (basically they trust us to monitor him and bring him back if anything gets worse,) then it's back to the hospital on Monday for an appointment with the consultant.

At least we're not spending the next 2 nights sleeping in a bedside chair at the hospital.

Hope everything goes okay mate. Good you're home for weekend at least. Try and get some sleep if you can! Appreciate that may be difficult, cant imagine the stress you both must be going through.

Very excited to say that I have ruined my life  :msgreen: due date 3 October.

Now if someone could kindly teach me how this all works, that would be great. It's a myth that you have to actually change dirty nappies, right?

Trust me, that's the easiest bit.

Congratulations.

Congratulations mate! :toot:

Don't worry about nappies, babies basically change themselves after a few months.

Congrats!

As you are now in the club, we can reveal that you don't have to change nappies. Kids don't actually poo until they are 8 years old.

Nice one.

The only difficult thing in the first year (I say this in hindsight) is the sleep (and the adjustment if it's your first).

It's been the biggest challenge of my life so far, but oh so worth it. Nappies are one of the easier parts!

Thanks everyone :D not sure quite what to expect if nappies are the easiest part  I've always relied heavily on getting a good night's sleep, so that is bound to be tough, but I won't mind really (...maybe).

Congrats!

As DML says, the nappies aren't that bad. Don't even smell that bad until they're weaning (depends on bottle/breast feeding as well). You're not even supposed to use wipes for the first six weeks, you need to use little cotton wool balls dipped in warm water. Towards the end of week five it was like going over the top at the Somme armed with a water pistol :dread:

Having just got to 6 months, my advice would be to really look into how you help them develop good sleeping habits. We didn't really do this, and taught the little guy lots of bad habits that we've only just been able to get out of him. Was a bit of a nightmare, if we have another one, it's definitely something we'd do completely different.

Yeah as someone who's had 3 don't get your hopes too high about how much control you have over this!

Go in with the best of intentions of course and there are lots of bad things you obviously want to avoid and good ideas you can't try and implement, but to a certain extent they do their own thing and some are just better at sleeping than others!

I was shitting it the entirety of my missus' pregnancy but I absolutely loved it in hindsight.

My daughter slept in 4 hour cycles for the first 9 months of her life and then pretty much all night from about 1. Every child is different though.

Congrats!

Thanks again for the kind words guys, warm fuzzy feels all round .

Are there many of us in the Ruined Life club? Have to admit, I've ignored this thread pretty much entirely until now, so I only know of other parents from references in other threads. I need to learn the ropes so I can gang up on non-parents and tell them how tired I am, and start all my posts with "As a dad..." :slol:.

When we talk about good sleeping habits, is that just literally sticking to a schedule so it's always nap/bed time at the same point every day?

You can tell I have absolutely no idea .

Nobody ever has any idea, my son is 5 soon and I still have no idea what I'm doing.

All kids are different so don't beat yourself up if your kid doesn't behave the way other people say their kids behave. As a baby, my son was fantastic for sleeping, he'd sleep through the night and we'd have to wake him for a feed. He's still really good once he's asleep, he'll sleep until gone 8am. We've never really bothered with a sleeping schedule because of that.

My nephew though has always been a pain in the ass with sleeping. No amount of schedules or routines ever made any difference.

It's all really scary but it's honestly the greatest thing you'll ever do, no matter how annoying they are (and they are VERY annoying!) the sweet and fun times massively outweigh the bad.
