Damn, sorry Knoy, I can't imagine how stressful something like that must be. I'm sure it will all work out and turn out to be one of those stories you look back on that obviously your lad will have no memory of whatsoever or any impact from it when he's older.

If it helps to reassure, our first spent the first couple of weeks in the ICU owing to lack of oxygen to the brain (was clinically dead on arrival but resuscitated). They thought she would have permanent developmental problems and we were supposed to be seeing a specialist for at least 2 years to assess her development but she caught up and we were discharged after less than a year because she was perfectly on track with development. Hang in there!

That's amazing. Can't imagine how terrifying it must have been at the time, but so pleased she came through it all.

The stuff these babies can go through and bounce back from head absolutely floored me. They really are incredible little things.

Thankfully the whole birth was such chaos that I wasn't aware how bad it was until after she was stable, bad enough of course but we only found out later how close she was to not making it.

It is incredible how strong they are despite being so small.

I can't imagine the stress you're going through Knoy. I'm a wreck with worry if my lad just has a cough from a cold!

Hopefully your little lad will be better soon.

Just seen this Knoy, echoing everyone else's well wishes. They're tough little things, I'm sure he'll come through this with no problems.

I've been able to watch my facial hair turn whiter by the day, it really has been an experience.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. The good news is, he's coming home! :toot:

He's recovered really well, and the surgery seems to have been as successful as it could have been, so there's currently no need for ongoing treatment with immunosuppresants! He'll need further procedures in the future, no doubt, but they could be a year or more away at this point.

Just looking forward to getting him home and getting him caught up on weight gain and development. He's 14 weeks now, and the baby in the next bed is heavier than him at 6 days old!

My lad spent the night in hospital, he had fever and wasn't taking his milk (which very unlike him as he loves his milk!) so we took him in, and while checks were okay they wanted to keep him in for observation as they weren't sure what was causing the fever was. Fortunately his temperature went down today so he's been sent him with antibiotics. Bless him, he has been feeling very sorry for himself. Knoyleo just the one night has put years on me from the stress so I can't imagine what you've been going through. Great news that he's coming home!

One thing I'm not happy about is the little man already appears to be cooler than me:

Great news Knoy, glad to hear it!

Found out on Saturday it's a boy. I know most people say this but I honestly didn't mind either way, it's just good to know and also that everything seems to be coming along perfectly so far.

Slight scare the other day when they had to rush my wife for an emergency scan as they couldn't locate the heartbeat :dread: strawberry floating hell, but it turns out it's because the placenta is sitting in the way, which is not typical but not hugely uncommon and not an issue.

Ben’s going to be 18 months in a few weeks. Can hardly believe it.

I am a little concerned at his lack of communication at this point. He can understand stuff ok, claps his hands when I ask him a lot of the time, goes and fetches specific toys if I ask and can look at things I ask about. But he doesn’t really communicate outside of babbling, singing and squealing. He doesn’t point or really try to get my attention at all. And it’s extremely rare that he will look at me when I say his name.

All the material says a lot of this is cause for concern at this age, but it’s impossible to tell if this is a development problem or if it’s simply the new normal for pandemic babies. Over a year of relative isolation can’t help

Does he go to nursery or spend time with other adults and children?

He spends time with his grandparents, but no other children. My partner signed up for a ton of mum & baby classes but they were all cancelled with the pandemic, and as her mum is higher risk for COVID, we have avoided mingling with anyone outside of our immediate family this entire time

My little brother was kind of like that when he was about your sons age. All he used to say was a handful of words, his favourite being car. He would be unresponsive to his name at times too, unless you mentioned the word car. He would sing, give you stuff, but talking properly was a problem. Mum took him to a specialist as she thought something was up, but it just turned out he was just slower at communicating than most, and he caught up fast when he started nursery.

Funnily enough he's now 26 and has no interest in cars.

My nephew took a very long time to start to talk. He was bright in every other way, but was over 3 before he started communicating properly.

If you're worried it might be a good idea to get him checked out just to put your mind at rest. But it's always worth remembering that all kids are different and all develop in different areas at different times.

Anyone got any recommendations for securing furniture to wall? We've got a tall cabinet that I really want to secure before the little man starts walking.
