I had a postcard today from ella's school, congratulating her on all her hard work at school. I'm so proud right now!

My lads 18 months old next week, and still won't say a word  The other half is having a breakdown over it. He grunts at everything. He knows everything as well. You ask him anything, within reason, and he knows exactly what you mean. Clever little twat

Had his first hair cut last week. Was a big deal for her and him, she suffers with really bad anxiety so taking him to the barbers was a big deal, and they both did great. He now looks so grown up

I didn’t say my first word until I was three and even I was vocally sparse. Went to a ‘special’ pre school and everything. Butt his was the 90s so mum just papped me into mainstream and told me to get on with it. Worked for me.

I was non-verbal for ages but I had speech therapy and made almost no sense around 7 years old. I went to special toddler's place too and somehow made it through mainstream school with top grades before strawberry floating up my A-levels spectacularly through my emo period (bit harsh, I got two Bs and had massive depression).

Then I was thrown out of university twice for never finishing anything before graduating with a high 2:1.

Turns out I have autism spectrum disorder and can only work from my own magical workshop for the rest of my life.

Hope this helps.

My brother could only say "car" at 18 months old, we took him to a specialist but it turned out he was just a slow starter when it came to speech.

One of my kids was walking and talking at about 8 months. One didn't until he was like near 2. All kids are different. Don't worry.

^that.18 months is fine anyway, my little one is that age and half the NCT babies aren't talking. Mine won't stop, so I can also see the benefits of having a slow talker.

strawberry floating hell if I ever have kids, I'm pretty sure they'll never shut the hell up past a certain age. Must provide plenty of lego, video games and miniatures.

My nephew is 3 and a half and isn’t very vocal. My brother has taken him to a speech therapist who has given them some tips but basically told them not to worry. All kids are different and my nephew is bright enough that they don’t think there’s any real issue there.

My lad is 2 and a half and never shuts up, unless he is around people he doesn’t know.

I just let out a loud squeaky fart and blamed the boy.

He looked disgusted at my betrayal and said “not me, it DADDY!” and pointed at me.

Grass. :x

I then said “urghh it’s a smelly one” and he looked even more disgusted with me and said “GO TO TOILET!”

Oh I do that all the time, shes well used to me blaming her for things and never lets me away with it. To be fair when it is her she will take credit and laugh hysterically at it.

We are in the throes (thrones?) of toilet training now. He was a late starter, but skipped the potty and prefers to just go on the toilet now.

But it cracks me up because he calls his gooseberry fool his 'big mud' - totally his invention. Plus, he insists on shouting/waving bye-bye to everything as it flushes.

"Bye-bye wee-wee, bye-bye wipe, bye-bye big mud..."

My delicate princess of a daughter does gooseberry fools like a lumberjack, they're genuinely bigger than mine. Sometimes my wife or I will call each other over to marvel/laugh at the size of the things

We've also now moved beyond the "I can handle the smell of my kid's poo" phase, hers now smell like some random guy has come into our house and shat all over the furniture.

We’ve not done any potty training yet, but I am looking forward to the day he goes to the toilet by himself. His gooseberry fool smells far worse than any adult poo. :dread:

We haven't done much, moo will ask occasionally to go to the toilet but most times she doesn't realise she needs to go until it is too late and she is going.

She is noticing more over time but yeah she is taking her sweet time, we didn't want to just start sitting her on the loo and are sorting letting her lead in a way as we figure there is no point until she knows she needs to go and upt o then you are just making her sit there or whatever.

We were starting to worry that he was behind in that respect, (he's a bit older than your kid, IIRC) but they just do it when they're ready. It's still a bit mixed with Arch at the minute - some days he'll tell you every time he needs to go and he wears the same nappy all day. Sometimes he just goes quite contentedly in his nappy.

I think they reach the point where they don't like the sensation of pissing/shitting themselves and it just becomes natural to tell you.
