Nemesis from Sonc Retro wrote:I don't have a lot of time, so I'll keep this brief. Dean Sitton (posting as DeanSatan), a former employee of SOA, and the guy who came up with the name "Ivo Robotnik", popped onto this forum awhile back. See this thread for details.

Dean had a variety of documents from his time at Sega, a number of them related to Sonic, including several versions of something called the "Sonic Bible". I bought them. They arrived today. I've started scanning them.

The Sonic Bible was an internal document created by SOA to provide a localised history and overall philosophy for Sonic and the Sonic universe. It is apparently not based on the Japanese history. According to Dean: "the bible was developed at Sega of America in-tune with getting the game from Sega of Japan - there was little to no exposure to the original japanese fiction at that time".

Enough blabbing from me. Here are the documents I've scanned in so far, in PDF form:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

And here are the source images:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I'm not sure about the correct names for these documents. Best as I can tell, I've listed them in order from oldest to newest. Some of the documents are missing some sections. What you're looking at is what I've got. More cool stuff coming soon.

I can understand if a game series, say Metal Gear Solid, have a bible due to their complex storylines...

...but Sonic? :fp:

I remember that from the crap comics.

Sonic was an ordinary brown hedgehog, while Dr Kintobor asked him to do an experiment.

The experiment went wrong, resulting in Sonic becoming the Sonic we know, and Dr Kintobor becomes Dr Robotnik.

I am ashamed to remember that. :fp:

I'm sorry, you've obviously had some sort of brain anuerism that's caused you to swap the words "crap" and "awesome." You have my sympathies.

STC was aces, much better than the crap american Sonic Comic (which, amazingly enough, is still going). But yeah, STC was ace. I have a copy signed by all the editors and Richard "teh bestest Sonic artist EVA!" Elson. I would estimate it to be worth at least £10000. But I would never part with it. Never.

And (without reading that bible thing as I'm still at work) I believe you're referring to the disastrous Retro Orbital Chaos Compressor (ROCC) incident? The one that also created the chaos emeralds and all the rings scattered about?

In the 'bible' Sonic just runs really fast on a treadmill and then turns blue.

Sonic the Comic was amaze. My favourites were the Decap Attack strips that used to occasionally feature.

It was amazing how serious Sonic the Comic was considering what they were based on. Super Sonic was some kind of psychopath.

I remember that, thought it was amazing that the hero would suddenly turn into this crazed monstrosity, it was strawberry floating sweet.

I had one of those! :o I had forgotten all about it until now.

I used to collect the comic but they're long gone now, don't know what happened to them. :(

Thou shalt not make another Sonic game with all of his stupid friends in it.
Thou shalt keep it 2D.

Thats about it.
