Sonic Rush was great, it took the high speed 2D Sonic from Sonic Advance 2 and 3 and ramped it up. Making a really energetic, great sounding and looking game.

Sonic Rush Adventure was like a cheap knock off of Sonic Rush - the core game was still there but it's like they didn't bother much.

I would love a Sonic Rush style game for 3DS with bomba soundtrack. Like the original though.

Anyway as glitchy as this is, Sonic 2006 is still way worse. The loading screens are an issue itself but when you consider the pay off isn't good at all then you have to wonder why bother.

I should add that I think the dance video is funny and I will be practising Knuckles' moves in the near future.

They did, and Sonic R actually proved to be quite enjoyable.

The thing for me personally is that....well not even the games that people say are good ARE actually that good. I mean personally I've never liked Sonic Adventure. It was a game almost bereft of content with some horrible parts that people seem to now overlook when they call it 'a classic', something that I still don't get to this day. The flagship game at the games launch wasn't even the best game available at the Dramcast launch never mind some great game to be remembered for decades. Even Sonic Adventure 2 which fixes some things is not a game I personally like. If you take those games out, theres barely been any good 3D Sonic games AT ALL. If games are aiming to be something like Sonic Heroes or something, that just shows how low they are aiming.

What a pitiful shame.

People call Sonic Adventure a classic? :dread:

Don't get me wrong their pretty decent, but classics, no chance.

Rush was great, Rush 2 not so much.

I've been thinking and I've decided that the Sonic series suffered because all main sonic the games try and be Sonic 2 when in fact they should be following Sonic CD's example (Sonic Boom doesn't count because by design it isn't even a sonic game IMO).
Basically Sonic 2 was all about going fast and was for the most part a linear game with a lot of cut off points in levels that prevented you from going back and exploring.

Sonic CD however the game was all about exploring, the game was not built around going fast, in fact the speed factor was a method for getting around, this is why Sonic CD was such a large game, there were a lot of area's in the game that you could only get to by planning out a path, for example time travel you needed to plan a path where you'd have a chance of keeping at high speed long enough to time wrap. Furthermore each level had loads of stuff hidden in it, many things were in places that were too hard or to out of the way to reach normally, this is where the speed and game physics come into work.
Sonic CD had a lot of places that you could get to by using speed to get incredible jump height and distance, the speed was not the main thing the game was built around it was just a tool in assisting the main design focus of the game which was exploration and platforming.

This is why Sonic CD is the best Sonic game and it is clearly the game that later entries into the series should have focused on, Speed as an exploration tool would have worked far better in a 3D space than speed for the sake of speed like in Generations or Unleashed or Heroes or any of those other games.

All Sega need to do is make Generations 2, I don't know why everyone can see it except themselves.

Generations wasn't very good either, the side on sections controlled like gooseberry fool.

Does anyone remember the term 'platform romp'?

A platformer used to be back in the 8-bit/16-bit days a platformer that went from left to right (Super Mario Bros.) whilst a platform romp was a game where you could go both left and right and up and down (like Sonic 2). I remember this was a really big selling point of Sonic 2 in the early days.

Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric.

Merely writing those words invites rage. When I admitted that I kinda enjoyed playing through and completing the game, it brought ridicule upon me. It didn't matter if you hadn't played the game... it was perceived wisdom that Boom was bad. Really bad. It must be hated.

And now... there's a review. Not a review that tries to proclaim Boom as being great... not a review that I can hold up as some kind of justification for my liking the game. But a review that takes a different perspective.

This is probably my favourite ever review of a videogame. I don't say that lightly; I've read and watched a *lot* of reviews over the years. And yet it doesn't give a lot of insight... it doesn't award a mark. It just gets it right.

Try watching this from the start right through to the end. Don't jump the end.

I've been watching the Sonic Boom series lately on Netflix, and it's actually really good. Just unashamed fun shorts that never take themselves seriously.

I did not check into GR expecting to read this  . Good on ya, Laga!

Of course, I took the opportunity to re-watch the review video above. It's still incredible... it's still right.

Knuckles just outlawed Mayonnaise so this show is immediately the best thing ever made.
