Fantastic news and pretty much ensures more gamers heading over to ps5. I hope sony mop up a few devs like from software and square enix and its game over.

No! First they'll need to buy FIFA (FIFA as in the actual organisation, not the license) so they can lock down exclusivity of the licensed FIFA game to PS consoles. Yes.

This. I actually thought they were already a Sony studio.

Sunset Overdrive isn't on PS4 at all, is it?

Had no idea they developed that. Having never owned an Xbox, there was really no reason to.

It’s safe to say Spider-Man 2 is already in production, wouldn’t mind remasters trilogy’s of The PS3 R&C games and Resistance to see out the rest of this generation.

Thinking of other Studios Sony might look to buy

Bluepoint Games
Supermassive Games
Kojima’s Studio

I sort of feel by the time the next generation is up and running we will have less of these bigger independents Studios actually staying independent.

They've probably made the best games in the past few years. The best exclusive on XB1 and PS4 have been by them

Can someone explain that to me?

Also: clicking on that Twitter thread and remembering there are people who actually care about Sony vs MS. This place is honestly a strawberry floating haven.

Until you read the top of this page Poser!

Sunset Overdrive was Aces, absolutely loved it, seemed to be a marmite game for some but with Spider-Man being such a massive hit Sony have done well with this acquisition.

It is a joke! Don't take offence, it is not proof of 'The Great Console War.' I think it takes the mickey mostly out of Ninja.

The joke is told from the perspective of a PlayStation fanboy who is delighted that Sony has acquired Insomniac and is crowing to an Xbox fan who is presumably upset. He is sarcastically saying that the Xbox fans shouldn't be upset because Microsoft have also made an acquisition, and he shares a picture of Ninja looking gormless. The intent and underlying meaning is to say that the Ninja acquisition pales in comparison to the Insomniac one.

When I read it I interpreted with post-console-wars irony. However upon reflection, after your comment inspired me to view the twitter replies of PSvXB memes, a PlayStation cat kicking an Xbox duckling, I now understand there was no irony to it, it was in fact just raw fanboy cussing! This makes the humour more complex and layered than I first envisioned. Simply brilliant.

Please don't hate me.

I've always wanted to play Sunset Overdrive

Hopefully this is a good thing for the staff and games, always a bit sad to see a successful independent studio get bought out though.

It's good for Sony and and good for Insomniac, of course. But it got me thinking.

Can anyone think of an example where a developer was bought by a major publisher and went on to produce better games than it had previously?

I couldn't think of any off the top of my head.

Naughty Dog got acquired in 2001, shortly before releasing the first Jak and Daxter game.

Who's Ninja?

Is Sunset Overdrive on Game Pass? I am getting an Xbone next month so of course I bet Sony pulls it from there just to spite me
