That feels low on the face of it but on the other hand, I don’t think Insomniac own any IP of real value-they don’t own Resistance or Ratchet and Clabk and they obviously don’t own Spider-Man.

I think they do own Sunset Overdrive-I might be wrong but that’s hardly a huge IP b

I wonder if Sony would have bought them if Spider-Man wasn't so well received. Not saying it's the only good thing Insomniac have done!! But they did get A LOT of praise for it and so I wonder how much that influenced Sony's decision to make a move on them.

It's great though, really fun game. I assumed it was a MS game, tbh.

Spider-Man would have been a big part of the reason for the purchase. Insomniac are a dependable, reliable studio and partner for Sony with no standout IP of their own. The mid-tier game Ratchet & Clank reboot did good business but Sony didn't buy them after that. However, Insomniac was trusted enough to use Sony's exclusive license to make a product that became Sony's best-selling exclusive on PS4. Spider-Man 1 profits probably financed the purchase and it now means that Sony has the nearest thing to a 'sure thing' with Spider-Man 2.

I’ve never played it but it barely sold a million on Xbox so I cant imagine Sony will have plans for a sequel.

They can just make a spiritual successor to Sunset Overdrive and give it a different name.

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:

With the traversal focus I can kind of see how spiderman followed sunset overdrive, tbh. Obviously there are huge mechanical differences, but the core of "designing movement that's fun" is there

I didn’t choose to fast travel once in Spider-Man, which is pretty much the ultimate compliment you can pay traversal mechanics.

Absolutely. In fact the only time I ever did it was to see what the cut scenes for fast travel were like as I’d heard they were funny.

I really need to get back to Spider-Man and give it a proper go, I basically just did the intro where you are in some building and have a fight against Fisk and then I got distracted by Bloodborne and never went back!

You definitely should. Spider-Man is one of my favourite games this gen. It's not perfect but what it does well, it does brilliantly. Has a decent Spider-Man story too-a different interpretation of the character to that of Marvel at the moment.

Spiderman is one of my next games to replay. I've not touched the DLC yet but I think I'm going to run through the main story again first as it was just so good.
