Struggling with the top and back spin in this. Currently on rank 4 but the usual spin routine for the earlier games doesn't seem to be working for me. IIRC in the earlier games the dot on the ball at impact would move whenever you applied top/back or side spin but no matter what I do with the D pad the dot always stays smack centre of the ball. Am I missing something obvious?

As far as I know spin works mostly the same as the older games (hold press a direction on the D-pad when setting power and on the third button press).

Spin is only really noticeable if you get a perfect impact. Top spin also seems to have been toned down and is only really shown on power shots or skimming water.

On another note, I'm finding putting easier than the previous games. I'm pretty sure putts are dropping that weren't actually going in because of the back door skill. At least 50% of those shown from inside the hole look to be missing.

Regarding spin, do I hold the dpad in the desired direction for the entire duration of the shot - as in, all 3 button presses? I could never figure it out.

You actually only need to press it when you hit X, but I hold down.

You obviously have to change the direction to do the Super spin options when they are available.

This is what I am doing but the dot impact on the ball never changes. In the previous games in the series the spin applied was really noticeable as well...if you applied back spin very often the ball would actually spin back on the green but this never seems to happen now, it's actually hard to ascertain if any spin is being generated. As mentioned maybe the mechanic has been toned right down.

Backspin is there... just less noticeable.

Super backspin seems only work on the green.

You definitely still get super top/backspin by the same method as before (forward on 2nd button press then backward on 3rd) but it only works on perfect impact (as before but I seem to struggle to nail it as easily as on Vita).

Got to Rank 5 yesterday, been trying to get all CPU opponents before moving to next rank. I need to practice more on Rank 4 course so I'm glad I finished Rank 3 (though will have to go back to rank 3 course to get comfortable with it)

Putting does seem easier yeah, but course three is kicking my ass... OBs everywhere

Just hit rank 2. I'm assuming this gets a lot harder at some point?

I'm a bit bored by this at the moment. I don't want to hit the online stuff yet until I've unlocked all the single player content but it's such a drag. I'm somewhere around level 3 and I've not lost a tournament yet, even on serious mode. I figure it'll get harder once the more difficult courses are unlocked but it's taking too long to get there.

It's taking its time, I agree. I'm still enjoying it - the feeling of empowerment as my club stats go up is very satisfying - but it's too easy so far.

It gets harder or at least for me on third and fourth courses. Im really struggling on them.

Got all CPUs from Rank 4, I'm now playing online or at least daily bonus thing where I get lot of stuff/coins.

Also I got few gems/crystals, no idea what they're for though...

I believe those gems allow you to buy fast travel tokens in the online turf war game. As getting to the next hole as quickly as possible is paramount this gives you a noticeable advantage.

They allow upgrades to Custom clubs when you've unlocked them.

Ahh nice, I'm just practicing third course. I make too many mistakes and kept strawberry floating up timing.

I'm really rubbish at timing in this. Also don't know why there's no method from PS3 version in this (then again I can't remember if vita has that or not)
