Perhaps he's referring to the PC as a dying format, referencing Steam's reducing subscriptions. "Running out of Steam" simply means that fewer PC gamers are using said download service these days.

And I still can't work out how 360 online updates take all of 30 seconds, where as with the PS3 I have to go and wash my face CLEAN OFF before it finishes.

Yeah, and then Mm bought some new servers and now everything's fine. I didn't deny that there were some server issues on the first few days, but you wrote:

The servers are ******, all the bloody time.

Which is total bullshit.

I'll have to go with your word on the present state of the servers, but your initial " :? " doesn't quite work, does it, when it was a reply to me mentioning Little Big Planet after the Sony guy said, "It's one of the things that PlayStation has been known for - a plug-and-play mentality, rather than a patch-patch mentality."

The game's had three patches already.

And your reply to me pointing out this blindingly obvious incongruity? " :? "

Pretty poor show, fella.

Well at least he managed to get half a sentence out before it all went to pot. Maybe next time he can attempt a full line. Of sense.

You know, Sony would probably sell more consoles if they just got on their knees and begged us to buy them, instead of taking bullshit.

If he wanted to have a pop, why not at the 360 build quality? Or what about the free online multiplayer offered by the PS3? Or how about singing the praises of Little Big Planet & Resistance 2 - both of which have been getting great reviews?

Open goal, really. If you're going to take the low road in the first place, at least choose the right road.

True dat, I think they should shut up really, but if they were to chat gooseberry fool, at least say things about the great games that have come out.. and also, I don't know what you guys are on about with the updates 'every time' you turn the ps3 on, I think i've downloaded a large patch maybe 2 or 3 times since the day we got it, and it took about 10 minutes for each time.. big deal? Not really, I love the games, the layout, and the fact that it's free to play online (never noticed any lag or server problems at all either)

Sony UK boss Ray Maguire believes the slow-starting PS3 has only begun to hit top speed as competing formats run out of steam.

"Yes, we might take a bit longer sometimes to bring a product to market, but when we do, we bring you the most powerful gaming platform ever to hit - and it will be something that will around for a very long time," Maguire told our sister site GamesIndustry.biz.

"It's nowhere near even halfway through its lifecycle, and I could argue that some other competing formats are on their way down right now."

Maguire joked that Sony hadn't worked out how to "have a child in less than nine months", although rushing games and software was something the company is keen to avoid.

He used PlayStation Home as an example of this; an oft-delayed and ambitious project, but one that needs to be right on day one, rather than being endlessly patched to meet expectations.

"We have to make sure that things are born at the right time, that the infrastructures are right and are tested, and that they actually work. It's one of the things that PlayStation has been known for - a plug-and-play mentality, rather than a patch-patch mentality.

"Getting it right is more important than getting it out quick, and I think it's very difficult to make that decision, to hold something up, but again I think it was the right decision to make sure that we were defining along the line where it is that we're trying to go to."

Home will roll out to the masses as an open beta sometime this Christmas, supposedly, before launching fully in 2009.

Whats this guy on. Does he not know the PS3 is the new PC as it seems to need an update every other day.

It's cocktail time!. Then again when isn't it.

'Plug & Play'...this from the console that brought you the mandatory install.

Don't really see how that works, to be honest.

I imagine XMB is an all-in-one solution whereas XBL has little pockets of code that can be updated seperately.

I takes a deep breath when I update PlayStation3, thats for sure.

No, in fact the ability to update only certain elements of the dashboard is one of the features that NXE is bringing in. It's just something about the way MS/the 360 applies patches. I'm sure someone with a greater technical understanding could explain better.

Since we're on the subject....

Why do demo's you download to the PS3 have to be installed manually after downloading? Why doesn't it do it automatically as one process? I mean, what the strawberry float else are you gonna be doing with it after downloading other than installing it on the hard drive?!

It's just a pointless hassle.

Hmmm...NXE refers to user defined features rather than the structure of XBL and I can't think of any other explanation because XBL updates/game updates are way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay quicker than PlayStation3 updates.
