I found it slightly disappointing. I didn't have high expectations anyway, a lot of Sony's exclusives don't appeal to me, and traditionally I find Tokyo Game Show to show more Playstation based content suited to my tastes. Uncharted 3 looked superb, much better than what we'd seen of the game so far. It looked gorgeous and there was a logical flow to the set piece, it wasn't overcooked, it was just superb design work, so much so, that watching it, you couldn't help but think whatever followed is going to have a tough time keeping up the momentum. It was all downhill from there for me. Out of all the R3 content we've been drip fed so far, that was easily the blandest. After the video in the boat, and then the cover art reveal, they very nearly had me, now I'm just not interested anymore.
The Vita stuff was easily the point where I felt genuinely let down. This was
the moment, where they could reveal what the future of the product held for us, where they could build hype toward the launch, and plant seeds of interest in what was coming in the distant future. It didn't really deliver for me. The BioShock reveal, great, fantastic. They didn't even need to show anything, just let me know what I have to look forward to. Nintendo did a fantastic job of illustrating what was to come in the future for 3DS, and I just wish Sony would have shown us more. While Ruin is very much up my street and looked solid, if a little by the numbers, the social aspects sound dire. The Street Fighter x Tekken thing doesn't interest me in the slightest, it's the type of game I'd rather get on a home console.
It's strange, even the Uncharted Vita game didn't really hook my interest as much as I'd hope. For me, it's not the climbing nor shooting that makes Uncharted great, it's the smart, intricately designed set pieces and the witty dialogue and characters, and this game showed nothing of that.
I'm almost certain I'll pick Vita up, probably at launch, but for me it feels like very little of what went wrong with PSP is being addressed.
That price point however, much better than I was expecting
