Sounds like Sony showed off a bunch of stuff that they showed last year?

Last year was the trailers, this year the gameplay.

With next-gen likely coming in 2020 I think that's it from Sony and Microsoft in terms of AAA announcements this generation.

Just watched The Last of Us and Death Stranding portions of it. TLOU2 looks amazing, Death Stranding looks rather strange, didn't really seem to tell us loads more about the game other than the main enemies are invisible and everyone is locked in a battle to see how much they can deliver in one go.

Naughty Dog have had an issue with pretentiousness since TLOU came out and it really hurt this conference. The gameplay looked good but I would have liked some context or at least clickers to spice it up and make it mean something.

Ghost of Tsushima was absolutely the best thing about this conference. Visually it looked stunning and a lot of fun to play.

The best thing about the Death Stranding presentation is the Kaz tweet

How long was the whole conference? Might watch it all when I get in from work.

By far, by far, the most hostility I receive on this forum is by discussing or pointing out issues like the tweet quoted. Some people become incredibly threatened when people in minorities take umbrage at their portrayal by video games.

It's like I broke your toy.

Also, you missed this one which I'm sure you would have enjoyed equally

I've always had a soft spot for Samurai stuff, so knowing that we have Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima and now Nioh 2 on the horizon is very pleasing to me. What a time to be alive.

I'm happy to see diversity in games, but that tweet is ridiculous, are they aware of the last game at all?

I have no idea what that person thinks beyond that tweet. However, it's interesting that some straight people feel comfortable calling a gay person's reaction to a gay scene in a video game 'ridiculous.'

What a bizarre showing from Sony. The format was terrible, especially in the first 3rd, it was so awkward. However, the games on display look incredible, TLOU, Spidey, Tsushima all looked utterly brilliant and I can't wait to play them. I can't really fathom what on earth DS is about, but it's aesthetic is great.
Overall I would say the exclusive content on show was far far better than MS's, but MS's presentation was much better. Content is king though, so Sony "wins" in my eyes, but MS will probably get the more favourable PR out of it.

How do you know I'm straight. My point is, what an earth did she think the gameplay would entail? In the world that the game presents every gender, race and sexuality would have to face the grim fight for survival, what is the problem with showing that?

I personally think it is a dig at the Ellen Page saga.

7/10 from me, which is about as low as I can go given the insane amount of games. The intermission was strawberry floating stupid. Sony seem obsessed with this non stop games stuff now and while it’s good on paper, MS and Ubisoft showed again this year why having people on stage can make your conference better. Lack of dates for the big stuff is really bloody depressing too.

Because you made no move to engage with the argument before dismissing it as unworthy.

As for the rest, it was not the fact that the game contains a gay romance, but that Sony specifically chose to use such a scene as a marketing tool.

Maybe. Who knows, I don't know their specific reasoning beyond that tweet. I do think it's a valid and interesting point from someone of the minority directly involved however, and not at all ridiculous.

How you can have so many great looking games, but deliver such a trash presentation is beyond me. I'm really pleased I didn't stay up to watch it. I could seriously care less about Ellie mutilating people, I'm more concerned that she has no taste. Her love interest looks like Ice Poseidon. Like seriously? And From Software's PlayStation exclusive is a VR game?

Death Stranding looks immense. I'm insanely hyped for Resident Evil 2. Leon looked weird to me at first. Claire and Sherry seemed spot on though. I'm mixed on Ghost, it looks beautiful, but the combat movement seemed janky. I'm eager to learn more about Remedy's new game, as soon as I saw it, I knew it was from them. I'm mixed on Spider-Man, the demonstration after the show was ace, but the show trailer felt really underwhelming. It's hard not to compare it to Arkham Asylum, and it just doesn't compare as favourably. I'm assuming it's the Sinister Six, or some incarnation, and I have no idea if it is just naturally reminiscent, but it feels so much less authentic. I'm guessing the mystery villain is Mysterio and his sections will play a lot like the Scarecrow ones in AA. I'm disappointed at the lack of the Final Fantasy VII remake too. Square need to sort themselves out. And why doesn't VIII have an HD PS4 release yet?

On the subject of the twitter post.

Surely the whole showing was to juxtapose the side of Ellie being a girl at a dance with the grim side of what she does or is going to do. It also hints at what could be her motivation.
The beauty of the first game (which was incredibly strawberry floating violent btw) was that it balanced the grimness with a great story and genuine warmth and pathos.

To dismiss the footage shown as a gore fest which uses a characters sexuality in a glib way to mask the violence is just click bait bullshit.
That’s why it’s receiving scorn and why you are as well for posting it.
