Sony not attending E3 2020. MS will be. Geoff isn't. Nintendo is.

I do like some E3 shows. Apart from the crowd who cheer everything from loot boxes to fallout 76 being a gooseberry fool rip off and the developer's laugh about it only to get applause.

Last year's was a weird one as Ubisoft werre terrible with Apple TV crap.

I think E 3 has had its time as the game awards are a better place to show a random trailer. Just make it like super bowl.

The terrible fake demos of E3 with actors pretending to do voice overs is crap. The Anthem one showed how much of a lie it all is.

Best thing about E3 is watching it watching it with GRcade open as that's more entertaining than most reveals.

No big deal. E3 is becoming more and more irrelevant with each passing year. It's simply no longer required for the industry players to show their wares.

I think that's about right. The reality is that both consoles are going to offer broadly similar gaming experiences and they'll both be brilliant. But MS are saying a lot of the right things and that will help win a lot of potential buyers, you'd imagine.

The Game Awards seem to be trying to take the place as the yearly event to get excited about, but for me it has failed miserably. There is nothing similar to classic E3. I hope PlayStation still do a state of play or whatever over the week.

It's also not really ideal for small publishers and developers because you're game gets lost in the sea of announcements.

Far better to reveal it during another time in the year when it will get its' own attention.

Also, Nintendo don't need E3 at all anymore. If it disappeared, I'm certain they'd still do their summer Direct and follow it with Treehouse.

It’s amazing how quickly the ESA’s nonsense, including an increased ‘influencer’ focus and that whole data loss thing, have turned me from a big fan of an annual festival of gaming to someone who can’t wait for E3 to die.

Wasn't their last time at E3 when Sony did that weird show from inside a church or something? That was a strawberry floating shambles so I'm not surprised they have no desire to go back to these big event style shows!

Yeah. They then had an intermission while the people were moved from the community hall stage to another place to show off Ghost of Tsushima. It was a neat idea very poorly executed. (They should have just stayed in the TLoU2 inspired room.) I also have a feeling they were trying to do out do the greatest reveal of anything ever (E3 2016's God of War orchestra/reveal) but it was just too convoluted.

Shame.

As others have said (and I have in the past), E3 isn't such a massive deal as it once before. The big companies see that. EA, Sony, Nintendo (partially), have all stepped away to do their own thing. But keeping it all enclosed within the E3 label helps to keep everything together in being one big gaming celebration. If E3 as a thing were to ever die, I think it would still be a good thing for developers and publishers to keep the second week of June as a gaming celebration. It's a hype event that even non-gamers recognise, and it still manages to draw in more attention than any other period of the year - no matter what gets announced.

Nintendo haven't done it for years and it hasn't done them any harm, whilst it is a shame Sony isn't attending it's not the end of the world.
