It's literally just a shitty Android tablet stuck inside a sliced up DualSense

I'm still hoping this is gonna be good. And not expensive.

It's possible, right?

£199, out later this year.

PlayStation Portal remote player

PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PS5 experience to the palm of your hand. It includes the key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback*. The vibrant 8-inch LCD screen is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps, providing a high definition visual experience that’s expected from the high quality games created by world-class developers.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.***

**Requires broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use. For a better play experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended.

***Games that require a VR headset (PlayStation VR or PlayStation VR2) or additional peripherals (other than a DUALSHOCK 4, DualSense, or DualSense Edge wireless controller) are not compatible. Games that must be streamed on PS5 using a PS Plus Premium membership are not compatible.

£199 then. No cloud streaming, just remote play off your own console (at home or away).

I’m sure the cloud streaming will be added at some point. Seems a bit like a “just make the hardware first” product. No Bluetooth is shitty, especially when it’ll support their own new wireless proprietary gooseberry fool (that, handily, all the other expensive accessories they’re releasing support! ), but at least they have a 3.5mm output on it, I guess?

For £200 its feature set is just so...limited. It can't even do Sony's own PlayStation Plus cloud streaming. Imagine getting a tablet for Christmas and you can only do one solitary thing with it. But your Dad's a bit of a wanker so he's also sawn your DualSense in half and glued it to either end. Thanks Dad.

Sony: What's a Vita?

This looks awful, doesn't even do the basics

Bit underwhelming, but I can see the market for it. Plenty of people (myself included) would love a second screen to play their PS5 on if a partner is using the TV.

Think I'd rather put the £200 towards a Steam Deck though.

Appropriate that a ps5 remote display has no games.

At 1080p at least it should be able to stream the MGS collection.

The sad fact is the second screen experience was there with the PSP and then again with PlayStation Vita but a combination of having to purchase games or movies twice (PS2>PSP, UMD), the lousy marketing, the expensive memory cards, then the remote-play technology not being up to the job...all these things ultimately kiboshed it.

The huge success of Nintendo Switch has shown people want to take that home console experience with them on a portable device, but Sony as yet haven't figured out as good a way of doing it. Maybe with PS6 it'll be factored in to the design of the console from day 1, especially if Nintendo smash it out of the park for a second time.

They must have done the research to think there is a market for it, but maybe it was the same people who decided the Vita TV thing was a goer.

So am I right in saying this would let you play you PS5 away from home aslong as both are connected to WiFi? I'm still not clear on this.

Yes. It works the same as remote play on any other device.

Seems so, but like you said the information is not clear.

At least it’s cheaper than the Logitech thing. But still more than I’d pay, for what it does.
