There seems consensus online that Now will be mothballed and a 3 tier Plus system put in it's place, so that's what I'm going for.

Plus has brand recognition and all Plus members could be prompted to review their tier, so that seems likely.

Tiers to be named in line with Trophies, so Silver, Gold and Platinum if they have three.

Silver will be PS Plus as we have it today.

Gold will have an extended range of games. It will include some games on release, but not all. Essentially this is a combo of Plus and Now, expanded based on internal subscriber predictions.

Platinum will include backwards compatibility, but this will be for the games Sony adds to the service, not a case of sticking in an old disc. It'll launch with choice from a few hundred and new games will be added periodically. There will also be some form of multimedia access. Sony films etc, but again, not everything.

All PS Plus members will be offered a 14 day free trial of Platinum membership.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Anything at all outside of my usual routine is far too much bother.

Day 1 Sony releases, however, they will only be available for one month but you can purchase them for a sizeable discount.

I was thinking along those lines, too, Proto! Tbh, Sony are pretty much in a no-win situation with this aspect; unless they follow Microsoft's lead of games being available "permanently", they'll come off as being second-best.

It's gonna be interesting to see what they offer and I hope we find out soon.

Hopefully they go through with it. A few years ago they signed on to use Microsoft's backend so it's definitely something they've been working on.

Then I can sell my PS5 that's not been touched since Spider-Man:MM and I can subscribe to it as and when I want to play an exclusive.

The only sacrifice I currently make to get Microsoft Rewards is to use Bing search instead of Google (up to 50 unique searches a day I think it is).

When I did have an Xbox, I didn't find the rewards to be unreasonable though. If you're planning to rent a film or play a game anyway, the points are just an added bonus.

If you're continually going out of your way then yes, there's no doubt better ways to earn extra money.

They'll have to go some strawberry floating way to make whatever service they announce worth £15 a month. Judging from Sony of the past few years I expect nothing.

To have a stab at answering my own questions...

Do you think Sony will announce a Games Pass style subscription service in 2022?
- Yes

Will it include day and date games for brand new Sony releases?
- No but I think we'll see some tokenistic discounts on games bought from the store, 10% off an £80 release for example. They may set in stone when the headline grabbers will release on the service, six months after release for example.

How much will it cost?
- £12.99 pm

What will it be called?
- PlayStation Access

Wild card prediction?
There will be some kind of partnership with a third party to get their games on the service early. Probably a Square Enix or Capcom.

Full backwards compatibility for PS1,2 and 3 will be announced along the sub. Your old discs will work on the console or a huge selection of games will be available on the subscription.

Actually I’ve just remembered this happened back in 2020, so I’d say pre-PS4 games are definitely in, but your discs won’t work and it’ll be cloud based.

https://www.gtplanet.net/sony-patent-ps ... -20200709/

Unless, of course, it is simply the distribution of the games that is being in the cloud, the emulation VM runs on the PS5, and it pulls games down as needed from *within* the emulator. Which would be pretty strawberry floating good, a lot like what Nintendo do with the virtual consoles on Switch, but with all of them in the one app. Sony “owning” the games like that (rather than running the code on your disc) could let them add enhancements like higher resolution, trophies, rewind, save states etc. But on the other hand, with the licensing issues there have been with re-releasing PS1 and PS2 games in the past, the library is going to be small and it’s going to be mostly gooseberry fool.

It is and isn't. I engaged for a few months and managed to get the official wireless headset for free without really trying. Currently sitting on 60k points again after 4 months, another couple of weeks and I'll have enough for 6 months ultimate. So not wank...

To add to this, I've earned enough back with it top buy a couple of backwards compatible 360 games since Christmas without trying. If you go for done of the bigger quests (as they call them) you can easily earn enough for a decent game.

I dunno why, really, but I'm super-eager to find out when (if?) Sony are gonna update PS Plus / PS Now. Guess we just gotta sit tight and wait.

I'm hoping that Sony will surprise us and present a "must-have" subscription scheme, SoK; something that makes us think it may be even better than Game Pass in terms of range and value.

Save yourself the extremely highly likely situation of being disappointed and just get a Xbox Series consoles with Game Pass. Because if you don't, then it's gonna be like a PS+ games announcement but exponentially worse. Sony have no real reason right now to practically give gooseberry fool away. Save that expectant excitement and hype for their games.
