http://www.thebitbag.com/2008/09/27/sony-to-charge-monthlyyearly-fee-for-mmo-mag/
Today I received a survey from Sony Playstation Underground and it seemed to be related MAG. The survey asked at least 15 questions related to Payment plans for the game. Seems Sony’s plan is to charge a yearly or monthly fee, while also one time fees for content downloads. It also mentioned hosting partners being EA, Sony, and Activision. So turns out not all games on PSN are going to be free after all. I wish I would have taken some screen captures of this email. Playstation Underground members check your email for a letter called “Short Survey. Big New Game.” More info from the email below. Stay tuned for more details.

UPDATE: Looks as if other Playstation Underground members have received this same survey. Many discussion boards around the net are buzzing about this confirming that others have received the survey. If any of you have this survey sitting in your inbox and haven’t completed it yet, please send some screenshots to us here at thebigbag.com and we will post them.

Sony should know better than to attempt generic shooters after the shitfests that have been Killzone and Resistance and the epic failure that was Planetside.

I wouldn't mind, it's got dedicated servers so I can see why they'd want to charge, so long as it wasn't a great deal, maybe £10 a year, I'd probably pay it, assuming that the game is good of course.

Worryingly though, this does put up a barrier to a lot of people who may not want to pay for online play, and MAG is a game that needs a lot of people to be playing it.

More likely to be £5-£10 a month I would have thought.

Isn't this more likely to be in relation to The Agency though?

I refuse to pay for subscription games. I also rarely buy downloadable content for games (Singstar being the exception).

This sounds like it would be similar to the subscription fees you might pay to play World of Warcraft.

In fact...

Hmmmm... I wonder...

Will never pay subscription fees for a game. I subscribed for Live gold and look how that turned out. Barely got my moneys worth. Either one lump sum or nothing at all. F**k you Sony. I was looking forward to M.A.G as well. Killzone 2 online it is then.

Subs are only worth it if the game can be played enough to validate it.

I payed for WoW for a bit but it saved me money because I didn't need any other game to kill time on. So I ended up spenind about £8 a month compared to £40.

I don't mind paying a small amount of money per month if the game is absolutely incredible so, I very much doubt I'll be paying anything then!

Hmmm. Sony need to get this sort of massive online shooter a big seller on PS3 before they should start trying to charge a monthly fee for the game. I'm sure the game will be great, but it's also the same sort of game which is very demanding for gameplay time so I expect my only experience with the game will be through betas.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I don't see why you'd want 100+ people in one match online. It's just too many. 16 is fine!

This has a point, i mean 16 players are mental. How in gods name is 100 going to work.

It won't.

The only way for this game to work is if everyone uses voice chat in teams and uses some kind of strategy. My headless chicken strategy will just not work in this and anyone with a lone gunman stance will hinder his team. It just means that unless you have co-ordinated games its going to be chaos.
However if a co-ordinated game with balanced teams can be achieved then it could be epic.

Yeah, definitely. This is one of those games that everyone playing has to be using a headset. I just don't see how team games can work without one. Which, interestingly, leaves quite a big sector of the PS3 auidence out in the cold. I think this will have to be bundled with one (ala Warhawk).
