I know some people feel piracy is immoral. But if you have already bought the media and it's taken away from you, then I can't see any moral arguments against pirating it.

If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Disc versions of the upcoming upcoming Star Wars Outlaws game require an online connection to install. Source: VGC

Ubisoft has taken this approach before with their recently published Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game. So... yeah, it seems likely that Ubisoft could do this with other games that they publish on disc. As was discussed with the Avatar game, the issue is that whilst this may not present too much of a problem in the short term, at some point it is likely that the disc will be unusable once Ubisoft turns off the server check for the game.

If it's anything like Avatar, the installation will take bloody hours.

I think it took around 8 hours to install in the end for me as the online part of it was ridiculously slow.

Well, here it is... physical versions of Assassin's Creed Shadows will require an online installation check to install the game. This is the third Ubisoft game of recent times to take this route, following Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws.

The same concerns apply; yes, this won't be too much of an issue right now whilst Ubisoft keep the game's servers open but, when they later shut down that server, your disc could be useless. It halts the possibility of you being able to play the game in future years; Ubisoft will decide exactly how long you can play your game for.

For me, this is a highly concerning move by Ubisoft and I will not be purchasing their games that contain this mechanism. I just fear that other publishers could follow suit. Source: VGC
