Photek, your opinion is incoherent. The Wii was incredibly popular with the mass-market but died out when the next craze came along. Do you think every family in the UK will have a VR headset, but will get bored of it after a while?

If you think VR won't take off at all with the public, but will appeal to a core group of 'nerdy' gamers, then OK but that is the opposite to the Wii.

For what it's worth I don't think VR will be immediately successful amongst the general public - who aren't, lest we forget, that interested in videogaming as we understand it full stop, largely preferring as they do to tap at shite like Candy Crush on their phones - but I think the unique experiences it will offer will have lasting appeal with 'hardcore' gamers.

It's upsetting me that we share the same name IRL *sigh* why can't you grasp my point?

I'll break it down for you in numbered points:

1 - The Wii sold huge numbers not least cos of the motion controls.
2 - People now think it was a bit of a fad (imo), thousands of people don't use their Wii's anymore.
3 - These same people who bought the Wii en masse will NOT buy into VR.

4. The sky is blue
5. The trees are green
6. The people that like blue skies don't like green trees
7. VR is doomed.

OK. I don't really think Joe Casual will be interested in VR yet either. That doesn't mean it won't "take off" though, does it? The industry will probably make billions of dollars from people on the slightly nerdier side of the spectrum, just like e.g. graphics cards already do.

One day VR may cross over and capture the public's imagination, but probably - and this was the secret of the Wii, too - when it's really cheap for what it is.

We're essentially on the same page really, I did say mass market appeal.

I reckon it will only cross over when the technology doesnt make you look like a goon.

Sure. If you'd explained it a bit better last page we wouldn't have had to have this dull argument about it. ;)

I can only presume they're expecting there to be uproar over the price, given they still haven't priced it and how they keep reminding us games are bundled in at every opportunity.

And a control pad. Oh yes. People seem to think it'll be about $500. How much were the dev kits?

Oculus Touch has been delayed to later in the year. I wonder if that was to help reduce cost of base device...
