I said exactly that when I bought the LotR BR set only to find each film split over two discs. I'm guessing it has something to do with the improved visuals and or audio...

Tch, The Walking Dead doubled it's disc count over a season and the sound and picture were no different.
I'd have got this if they could trim it down.

HD? Most of The Sopranos was filmed in 4:3. How can they make that HD?

James Gandolfini’s Son Michael Gandolfini Cast as Tony Soprano in ‘Sopranos’ Movie

Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini, will play the young Tony Soprano in “The Many Saints of Newark,” the prequel movie to the television series “The Sopranos.”

“It’s a profound honor to continue my dad’s legacy while stepping into the shoes of a young Tony Soprano,” Gandolfini said. “I’m thrilled that I am going to have the opportunity to work with David Chase and the incredible company of talent he has assembled for ‘The Many Saints of Newark.’”

Alan Taylor is directing the movie for New Line. The cast includes Cory Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Jon Bernthal, Alessandro Nivola, and Vera Farmiga. The film will be set during the Newark riots in July, 1967, when the acrimony between African-Americans and Italian-Americans became lethal as 26 people died and hundreds were injured in New Jersey’s largest city.

Series creator David Chase co-wrote the script with producer Lawrence Konner. Plot details are under wraps. Some of the other characters from the series besides Tony Soprano will appear in the movie.

Good lick to the kid, very big shoes to fill.

Still get sad that Gandolfini is dead, he was such an incredible actor and seemed like such an incredibly nice guy off-camera :(

Need to watch The Sopranos again.

I'm currently re-watching the series again just finished S1 :datass: now onto S2

Have also been looking up things on Youtube, interviews etc James sounded so different in real life. His New Jersey accent was spot on though

I'm on series 5 of my first re-watch. If anything I think it's even better than the first time. Series 3 in particular is just outstanding brilliance throughout.

I'm not much of a protectionist so although I'm highly dubious of this prequel I'll be excited to watch it when it comes out.

We've started watching this. I'd previously seen the first series but stopped for some reason. Currently 3 episodes in to series 2 and loving it. The guy from prison has just run the pizza guy over and offered to bump off Tony.

Shame I've seen the actual ending thanks to some stupid OMFG MOST SHOCKIMG TV SCENES show a while back, just showed it out of nowhere, although it isn't spoiling anything really.

Love all the characters too, very believable. Tony's mum is such a split  OH I WISH THE LORD WOULD TAKE ME NOW.

Also it's funny that this was filmed in widescreen but framed for 4:3, becuase there were a few moments in S1 where the actors were all bunched in the middle of the screen and you could see the bloody crew sat to the side

Yeah I'm watching it for the first time at the moment as well having been spoiled on the ending years ago. It's good but four seasons in, I wouldn't put it up there as one of the best shows of all time. Gandolfini's performance is fantastic though.

We just finished the whole show for the first time this evening.

Junior was such a banana split but his angry outbursts made me crack up. Running a button gambling game in the home  Junior's Alzheimer's in the last series, very well portrayed :(

Paulie. Loveable until he suffocated an old lady with a pillow. What a bastard.

Christopher. Such a bell end. Had it all and shot it all up his arm. Tony killing him by holding his nose while he choked on blood :dread:

Silvio. Every time he's with another character on his own you better watch out.

Vito :( Poor bastard. I loved the way they were all falling over themselves to show how not gay they were by volunteering to kill him, then when he's gone they all really miss him and exact revenge.

Dr. Malfoy (spelling?). Found her bits pretty boring overall, but I loved it where she'd finally had enough of tony's gooseberry fool and told him to strawberry float off.

A.J. What an entitled gooseberry fool.

What does everyone think happend at the end then? They made such a big deal out of Meadow cocking up parking and being late that it has to be the guy from the toilet killing Tony and her witnessing it right?

The entire final series sets up the "you'd never even know it happened" idea of getting whacked. Silvio is having dinner with a guy that gets blasted, didn't even realise until a few seconds after. Bobby Baccala says the same thing to Tony when they're out fishing. Phil Leotardo gets whacked at the petrol station and doesn't see it coming.

Then in the final scene, Tony gets whacked by the guy coming out of the bathroom. He's distracted by the door/bell at the front of the restaurant and the screen goes black because Tony is dead.

Perfect ending

I find myself really unconcerned about what actually happened at the end. I just remember being sad that it was over.

The real debate is the one around by which season it is acceptable to fancy Meadow.

I miss this now :(

On thing we were talking about earlier is the product placement in the show, which was strawberry floating embarrassing, to the point where it was almost Truman show parody.
