God forbid there was actually some diversity. Hopefully the sequel is just the same three missions repeated over and over.

I really liked Spiderman but it is a by the numbers open world game.

I’m with Pedz, Spider-Man felt much more fully realised than the last few GTA games did, and much more diverse in what it asked you to do. IMO of course.

There's far more variety in the GTA missions than this, I mean it's pretty much objective fact. GTA 5 has waaaaaaay more variety than Spiderman which is how I'm finding it hard to see how it being more like GTA could be a problem. If you take RDR 2 into the equation that is an immeasurably more interesting world. Again, Spiderman is great but it's the AC2 open world format with Spiderman traversal and Batman combat.

I don't see how adding more depth to that would be a bad thing.

I'd say Spider-Man's world was infinitely more interesting than Red Dead Redemption 2 but I'm happy to agree to disagree.

The world in Spider-Man is one of the best open worlds this generation. It was gorgeous at times and I think the game offers plenty of variety considering it’s a crime fighting game.

Didn't think Spider-Man's world was particularly special but wouldn't hold that against the game since you're meant to be swinging over it at speed, not walking through it.

Thing is it works both ways, you can wander around at street level and it still feels more like a living, breathing Manhattan than any game I’ve ever played before, or swing through the skyscrapers at insane speed and enjoy one of the best traversal mechanics this generation.

I’m obviously biased because I strawberry floating *love* Spider-Man, but I only ever used the fast travel in this game once, to see the funny subway scene, and that’s as strong a recommendation as I can give for an open world game. That I actually wanted to spend as much time in the world as I could.

I agree with Hime, tbh. The traversal was the best part of the game by a country mile. The missions were just a reason to go from A to B.

I'd have liked something that wasn't just 'fight a dozen guys on a roof/the street' or 'chase a car and then fight a dozen guys'.

I just swung through a load of toxic clouds and took pictures. (This time of things other than landmarks.) And one of the side missions had me tracking down a fake Spidey, another had me tracking a train. (I dreaded it when I realised what was happening but the pace was still nippy and so it was fine... right up until I decided to land on the train and got killed by smashing into a tunnel entrance :slol:) And I still have a whole load of question marks/side missions locked away. They can't all be the same, can they? Maybe a sequel could introduce even more diversity in mission types by splitting gameplay up between different characters? (I can then see what the next complaint would be already :lol:)

In theory I have no issue with a sense of repetition in mission structure, provided it's a repetition of something with depth and is intrinsically enjoyable. Dying Light is my go-to example; I would happily do fetch quests all the time in that game, as the sheer act of going from Point A to Point B offered so many approaches and customisation. Same here, there's enough depth and variety within the combat and traversal that all I'm looking for is more excuses to explore it further. In a sequel I'd like to see a higher skill ceiling implemented as well as penalties for other stuff (fall damage), give me a reason to engage with the systems fully and use the full arsenal. With this game I often forget the gadgets are there, and pretty sure I haven't touched some of them once. Bolster the enemy variety to ensure everything gets used.

I can’t wait to see what Insomniac can do with the extra power of PS5, NYC in this looks amazing, they really nailed the look and feel of the city

Butt the world is just full of the same lifeless NPC's that are in most games (to be fair similar to GTA 1-4) , it's the 360 era style open world of massive checklists. To be honest I'm not entirely sure what "please don't make this like GTA means" as it's very similar to those style of games in design but RDR 2 is on a different level. There would be nothing wrong with this taking on some of the things from RDR2, The Witcher 3, BOTW, etc and having more systems within the world to make it feel a little more organic rather than a series of checklists within a very well presented open world.

To be honest I'm good either way, is not a bad thing being a videogame ass videogame, I like games that I can complete checklists but it's never going to more than a really sold 7 or 8 /10 if it just follows the AC2 style open world design (albeit with a very well told story).

REALLY enjoying this now :toot: Swinging after a HUGE free-fall is amazing :msgreen: I think that's part of the reason why I'm enjoying it so much – I feel like I've finally got a handle on traversal. Up to the last few days, I still thought Spider-Man in the original LEGO Marvel Super Heroes had better swinging! But now... I just can't get enough of the travel in this.
35% completion and I've only had a couple of gripes, both recent and both research side mission related: :x Call Tower Frequency (so annoying), and side missions which are locked behind requiring specific skills and gadgets.

I didn’t mind the repetition, it was a bit full on in long sessions but it meant I knew exactly what I was doing I guess and it didn’t really extract.

I’m not sure I felt the city was as immersive as others in this thread, the swinging through a what felt like a living city was great at times. But I’d say in comparison to RR2 there’s NPC’s in that whole seem to go about a whole arc by themselves without you interrupting them, you can pop in and out of every building. I know that’s not entire possible with NYC but you were limited in where you could go and such.

But I loved it regardless wasn’t a flaw to me
