Lush. Only done the first level of the single player so far, so I'll have to pick that up somewhere down the line. Thanks, Jawa!

The amount of games I've had so far where someone hasn't played at all, though :dread: What the hell, Nintendo. Sort your online out.

Just had a game where all three of my teammates didn't bother playing :dread:

Have now invested in a hat that charges my special move if the other team has more active players :datass: Will be getting a lot of use with that, I think.

Yup. Octo Expansion is fun but hard. There are some things that I've liked so far, like guiding the ball through a course and some of the defeat all the enemies challenges, but then you have the rail shooters where you need to hit balloons/boxes with no checkpoints. There's been some challenges I've managed to pass just miliseconds from a fail, but I've had fun doing all of the ones I've played so far - even if I was seeing red at times and calling them out for 'being impossible' or 'ridiculous design'. So far I've only completed lines A, G, and I, so haven't been rushing through to get the four objectives needed.

Can't make it past the first shift of Salmon Run :slol: That big snake-y boss is a proper prick when the map gets smaller. Think it's probably not the best mode to be playing with randomers. Might have to try and find some friends...

Man, these ranked matches are awful with people dropping out :dread: Can't wait for the football to be over so Splat Wednesdays can come back :(

EDIT: Keep getting communication errors, too :fp: And the game tells me off for it! The cheek.

What level are you playing at? The higher you get, the much less dropouts you get.

10 at the moment, I think. Only just unlocked the ranked matches. That tower one is horrible :dread: Think I've only won it once so far.

I meant for the ranked, but you're obviously -C if you've only just unlocked them. Once you get up to around A the disconnects are a lot less frequent.

Not enjoying these ranked matches at all :dread: Feels like, even though we're all on the same rank, I'm severely outgunned... Will stick with Turf Wars for now, then see if I can get some better weapons. Clam Blitz wouldn't be that bad if you didn't have to collect ten of the twats before you can actually do anything with them!

EDIT: Why have they got levels to unlock weapons and then ranks in the various modes, too? Surely if you're a higher level with better weapons you're going to be an instant advantage against someone at a lower level even though you're both the same "rank" because you've never played the mode before. Daft.

The weapons aren’t meant to get better, you just get more options/combinations with subs/specials. They balance them all the time to make sure none of them are too overpowered. The choice at the start is perfectly viable for the ranked modes, especially at the low levels.

I get the occassional decent match, but 90% of the time we just get obliterated. Nowhere near as much fun as Turf Wars, so I'm staying away. Shame, really.

I think Turf Wars isn't quite as frustrating a mode because it's not explicitly combat-based, while the ranked matches *are*. Even if you're just starting out you can put down some decent coverage without really encountering anyone. It's entirely down to the quality of your teammates, though, so it's a little too hit and miss. When it works properly it's great fun, but it feels like it misses the mark a lot at the moment. Just wish I had any IRL friends who played :fp:

There were a group of GRcadians why played the Splat Wednesday sessions pretty regularly, Frank. Unfortunately it has been quiet recently (because reasons / World Cup) but if you popped a note in the thread then you may find that folk would join.

Yeah, I remember you saying  I'll reignite that thread once we're finally rid of the football.

I've heard Splatoon is the kind of game that isn't quite popular enough to have a middle -- people are either really crap at low ranks (literal tiny children?) or obsessively good at high ranks. Don't know if that's true but seems to fit with Frank's experience.

I keep reading a lot about the matchmaking being rubbish, too. That definitely seems to be the case :shifty:

It has a pretty decent sized userbase and they focus the game modes so it's never spread too thinly. You just need to get out of the bottom C ranks where you get lots of kids like you say, disconnects etc. Once you get to A/B ranked levels it gets a lot better and I don't think the standard there is that difficult. The obsessives are way up at X rank now.
