My vote would go to Mark Cavendish or Andrew Strauss. Don't think Cavendish is as high-profile though, which will probably go against him. Must have been scraping the barrel to have to include Amir Khan on the list. :fp:

Cavendish gets overlooked every year despite persistently being the best at what he does in the world.

It simply has to be Cavendish, if we are really talking about who has the most impressive achievements.

Well, it's only scraping the barell if you write one paltry line about his recent achievements. Khan is now the unified WBA and IBF Light-Welterweight Champion on the World and has beat the best in his division bar one fighter (Timothy Bradley - a fighter who turned down a ridiculously generous offer from Khan to fight). I'm not saying he deserves to be in the top ten, but he is the best in the World in his division right now, something that not many British sportsmen or women can claim.

I've never understood why it's sports personality and not just sportsperson of the year.

This. Surely the personality thing rules out Cavendish, as he's a bit of a dick.

Just taking my facts from the BBC site. That was the only achievement listed.

And things like "beating the best/being the best in his division" could be argued and is fairly subjective. It's not fact like the other things. Will edit in the title unification though.

No women, no footballers. Quite a unique list. Wonder who'll get the Lifetime Achievement award?

Considering recent events, it would not surprise me if it was Speed. Other people may include Schumacher, Federer, Mansell, Hill, Rossi, Dettori, Radcliffe, Nickalus, Redgrave or Shane Warne.

Had he not already got it, Fergie would be a shoe-in.

Good list. Ballasteros won it twice, so maybe Fergie could too.

Federer will get it at some point. He won his 70th title the other day.
Just read this on his Wikipedia page: "In 2011, he was voted the second most trusted and respected human in the world, second only to Nelson Mandela."

No footballers  Good, because no one is deserving this year.

As for the winner this year, Cavendish or Mo Farah would be worthy but I've got to go with my boy Strauss

Looking through the list, and not knowing all but the last two, I'd say Rory McIlroy's the most likely to win it. Though they're all deserving I'd say.
