I don't think I was the only Star Fleet fan at GR (though I could be totally wrong about that), so some of you may be glad to hear, if you hadn't already, that it's coming to DVD from next Monday.

Oh! Joy!

Who is old enough to remember it, eh? Sunday mornings, mid-show adverts with "Charlie" the cat looking after his master (I won't mind if they're not on the DVD), an epic space-opera storyline, huge space battles and giant robots. What more can you ask for in a puppet based series? Check out Wikipedia for details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Bomber

And then buy the DVD next week.

Fantastic! God, I loved that series. I even bought Brian May's Star Fleet Project record, though that was more because I was a fan of both Queen and Van Halen.

However, I've just looked on Amazon, and the DVD set is £30. It's not that I'd mind paying that much, but in a few months it will probably be down to about £15. It's not like I've been waiting for it to be released, so hanging on a bit longer won't hurt. I'll definitely buy it at some point, though.

Cheers Stu.

I thought it was you rinks, glad I'm not going completely mad then! Fair point about the price. I don't know though, I might just take the plunge.

As for how it'll have aged, I mentioned the fact it was coming out to my Mum, and she asked whether you had to be a child to appreciate this sort of thing. I said that a bit of wide-eyed-wonder probably helps for pure enjoyment (though it's not like us gamers can't summon a bit of that up, eh?), but that I was looking forward to bringing my adult critical faculties to bear on it - some episodes of things like Ulysses 31 and Dungeons and Dragons stand up magnificently. I mean, 'Dragon's Graveyard' anyone? Powerful stuff. I'm hoping that Star Fleet will deliver something similar.

Starfleet was the first topic I created on GR back in 2003.

If I were around then, I'd probably have replied to it. Star Fleet r0x0rz.

I used to watch the show a lot but my memory is just awful so I cant remember anything about it other than the name :( . Most of my childhood is gone now as well which is a bit of a downer.

Oh. Maybe I thought it was you then, not rinks. Or maybe you're playing some sort of trick on me, you pair of Sandman-avatar-scamps.

There's only one Starfleet worth mentioning.

How odd. I was thinking about this very same programme just the other day, I just couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called. I'd even thought about posting on here to ask about it but got stuck when I came to describing it:

puppets, big robots, bloke with odd thing on his face......actually, that might have got an answer!

Brilliant though, I used to love watching this!

Re: Star Trek Starfleet. Also good, but rather different. Give both a chance.

To be honest, not sure where they got the name Star Fleet from anyway. The Japanese title was X-Bomber.

It was me.

Definitely not Chalkitdown.

He's an avatar felon.

I'm sure rinks did reply to the original thread though.
