The series follows Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the starship USS Enterprise as they explore new worlds throughout the galaxy during the decade before Star Trek: The Original Series

Wikipedia wrote:Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck respectively star as Pike, Number One, and Spock, reprising their roles from Discovery. These characters were introduced in the original Star Trek series, and these actors were cast in the roles for the second season of Discovery in 2019. After a positive fan response, Kurtzman expressed interest in bringing the actors back in their own spin-off series. Development had begun by March 2020, and it was officially ordered in May. The lead cast, title, and creative team were confirmed then, including Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers as showrunners. Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush, Melissa Navia, and Bruce Horak also star in the series. Filming took place at CBS Stages Canada in Mississauga, Ontario, from February to October 2021, with additional filming in New Mexico.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is set to premiere on Paramount+ on May 5, 2022, and its first 10-episode season will run through July 7. A second season was announced in January 2022, and began filming a month later.

https://www.paramountplus.com/gb/

The first three episodes of Strange New Worlds will premier in the UK when Paramount+ launches on Wednesday June 22nd for £6.99 per month, with additional episodes being added each Wednesday.

At launch P+ will NOT offer anything above 1080p HD, so if you're hoping for 4K and HDR you're out of luck (For a while).

Until then, there are always "alternative sources" :shifty:

Looking forward to this. Pike and co were easily the highlight of season 2 of Discovery, so I'm hoping they can at least give us something entertaining.

It's apparently meant to be more "episode of the week" in format rather than having one overall season long arc.

Not sure about Number 1 or Spock - but Pike was great

Yeah he was the best of them easily. But I didn't mind Spock too much and Number one never really got much to work with in the Cage so she's a bit more of a blank slate.

I'll be interested to see how the rest of the crew is fleshed out.

My worry is that there is a crew member who's name is Noonian Singh and I just don't see that ending well. :?

But if it can give us something a bit more optimistic. A bit more "Star Trek" then I'll be happy.

EDIT: Also, I didn't know that Rebecca Romijn was married to the guy who voices Commander Ransom in Lower Decks. That's a nice link.

UK release confirmed for Paramount+ UK launch on 22nd June for £6.99 per month.

No confirmation if it's going to be all the episodes to that point, or if we'll be on one episode a week. Either way I'll be watching at US pace.

I take it the rumours that paramount would be provided to sky customers like peacock aren't true then?

My understanding is that Sky Cinema customers will get it as part of their package, but you can get it standalone.

This is the case. It gets added to your Sky package in the same way Netflix is included in some packages.

Not terrible, not great. Some good signs, some bad. It's a pretty solid pilot - although it's so on the nose and heavy handed it's makes it hard to like it

NO ONE WILL EVER MENTION DISCOVERY AGAIN OR ELSE lasted 1 episode

Sounds about what I'd expected to be honest. Still looking forward to it I think.

Downloading it now. Gonna watch it, Picard and Halo tonight.

I actually liked it more than I thought I would. A good start I think.

It wasn't amazing, but it felt reasonably solid and seemed to lay out the premise for the show going forward.

Pros:
The focus on "story-of-the-week" rather than the all consuming arc has already paid off and I loved it.
It felt like a Star Trek episode. More so than ANYTHING Discovery and Picard have managed to do.
Clearly setting up the Gorn as the overall villains of the show, which could be quite interesting.
The cast are all good so far. Anson Mount is great and a perfect choice for Pike. Wasn't enough Rebecca Romijn to judge, but I did like her on Discovery.

Cons:
Not sure how I feel about Kirk being on the show this early though. I'd have to rewatch the relevant TOS episodes, but I didn't think Kirk knew Pike.
My worry is he'll be a distraction, but we'll see what they do with him.

La'an Noonian-Singh.... I don't see how they introduce a character with that name and not have her in some way relate to Khan. Very wary on that one.
It was a bit heavy-handed with the "We strawberry floated up our world" stuff.

Not necessarily a "Con" but Pike is essentially playing with God-Mode on at this point isn't he?
I'm glad they at least address the end of Season 2 of Discovery, but I don't see it coming up too often.

So yeah, after the crippling disappointment of Picard I'm excited to see where they go with this. Or more accurately I'm interested to see how they mess it up.

EDIT: I'm so happy to have "Space, the final frontier" and an Enterprise focused show again. It's been too long.

You should pay more attention.

That wasn’t James Kirk

I was a bit confused to be fair. I knew they'd cast him and I was sure he wasn't showing up till next season at the earliest.
Plus he looked a bit different.

So is it his Dad? Brother? I must have missed something.

Anyone heard about any of these alternative sources so I know where to avoid? Please OM me so I can ensure I never go to any of those places.

I need to see this, it sounds pretty good from what you all are saying, much more like the kind of Star Trek I like. Will have to give this a go tonight.

I liked the first episode a lot, subtle as a sledgehammer though it was. Cast and especially Pike are very likeable.

I loved it, such a relief after the bullshit of Discovery and Picard. Heavy-handed but then Trek always was a bit. Felt proper. Hope it carries on like this with actual exploration and adventures and doesn't fall back into tedious wanging on about feelings and characters you actively want to hurry up and die.

Pretty much what Red said, to be honest. Loved that episode.
