S1E02 Another good episode. Think it was better overall than the first one as well.
Nice to see it focus on Uhuru. Thought the plot was classic Star Trek stuff. Could easily see the same story adapted for any of the older shows and it working just as well. I liked the musical aspect of it too. I couldn't think of any other Trek episode that had anything like that, which was cool. It also tied in nicely with Uhuru randomly singing all the time during TOS which was a nice touch.

Been thinking about this show some more and I'm so happy with it (so far).
It's given us more authentic Star Trek in 2 episodes than Discovery and Picard have in 6 seasons.
So for me the Nu-Trek balance is tipping overall into the "good" category alongside Lower Decks and Prodigy.

Finally got round to watching the 1st ep. The cast and visuals were pretty great, but i didn't like the heavy handed, overly familiar throwback story. Interested to see how the 2nd ep fares though.

Latest episode was really good. It's a story that's been done in Star Trek before but I loved the character building again.

S1E03
I do love a "quick find a cure for the weird space disease" episode.
Another decent episode I felt. Was nice to spend some more time with Number One and get some more insight into who she is. Was also glad to see Doctor Mbenga get something to do. Not sure how I feel about him storing his daughter in a transporter pattern buffer though.
Spock/Pike stuff on the planet was good if a bit predictable.
La'an finally talked about her heritage and I'm still not sure I like it. Spock had to look up Khan in "Space Seed" and it just seems off to have been working with his great, great, great, great grand-daughter and not be aware of who he was. Especially when she talked about being bullied because of her name, so people were still clearly aware of him. I just don't like that they felt they needed to get more Khan references in and that it had to be done in such a ham-fisted way as having a relative on the Enterprise.
I feel that's a Trek 2009 onwards issue in general. I mean I get that Khan was a cool villain, but I don't need to be reminded of him all the time.
So yeah I'm really happy with how this is working out so far.
Self-contained episodes but with ongoing plot threads that it will pull on from time to time.

But yeah this is what Trek is.
I've no issue with them focusing on season long arcs as long as they can get the writing correct. So far both Picard and Discovery have been wildly varied in the quality of their writing, and neither of them has had a solid season yet. Season 2 of Discovery was alright and I attribute that mostly to Pike and Spock being there. Beyond that they're moderately average at best and offensively bad at worst (Hello Picard Season 2).

As KK pointed out in the Halo thread, Paramount+ will not offer 4k, HDR or Dolby Atmos at launch in the UK.
For anyone who likes those things, "alternative sources" will continue to offer a better service.

Yeah watched episode 4 and it's been the best one so far.
I'm convinced now that they've not just fluked the first couple of episodes. Good live-action Trek is back baby.

Finished S2 of Picard.
The first half started really well but then it just fell off a cliff. The ending was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen in science fiction. What they did to the Borg was one of the most dire mistreatments of a character/race I have ever seen.
The Borg are supposed to be this relentless force of nature that has a built in irony of never being able to achieve their stated goal of 'perfection' because what they truly desire is to all be Data. This will never be achieved by assimilation of biological matter. Combining Kim from Scott Pilgrim and the Borg Queen into some sort of peaceful, loveable Borg was jumping the shark on a galactic scale.
The first part of the season was actually ok as I thought we were in for another Voyage Home/First Contact sort of crossover story and I could live with that. Then we had the episode inside Picards' brain and it all went downhill.
There were also as many plot holes as the first season. Trying to hack some drones? Seven just got her Borg implants back! Comparing this to The Expanse is night and day. The best bit was when Wesley showed up.

Fell behind with this a little this week, but managed to catch up last night.
Episode 6: Might just be the best episode of Star Trek in a generation. Wonderful nods to TOS in tone, location and plot, with a surprisingly grim outcome. Dr Mbenga is becoming a favourite of mine as well. Bravo.
Episode 7: A bit of a let down after the last episode, but still a bit of silly fun. The heel turn was obvious from a mile away and once it happened she really began to chew the scenery, not always in a good way. One thing I never thought I'd be invested in is Spock and T'Pring, but she's been fantastic in every episode so far. More of her please. I did like the cut back to the Serene Squall bridge with the mutiny going on in the background.
Oh and that Sybok reveal!
I know I keep saying this, but I'm genuinely amazed that so far they've knocked this show out of the park almost every single week. Assuming it can maintain this for the remainder of the episodes, it's arguably the strongest first season of Trek ever.

3 days till Paramount+ launches in the UK and this, finally, gets made available to a UK audience through legitimate means.
It just sucks that they won't have any 4K HDR content available at launch.
Which means that until they do I'll continue to be a scurvy space dog...
EDIT: Just found out that the first three episodes will be available from the 22nd, with subsequent episodes being added each Wednesday.
