Played 3 hrs of my free 10hrs EA access trial. It's a pretty game but I can tell it's not going to be worth me buying it. Completed the single player levels and tried Starfighter and Galactic Assault modes. I'm just not cut out for grinding MP games these days

Just started using the S-5 blaster pistol as the officer. This gun is a hand cannon! Love it.

It's worth it, you'll be a much more formidable opponent with it than the other pistols. I've not unlocked the last one, so I can't comment on it, but it looks like it might be alright too, especially once it's been modded.

Got all the heroes unlocked on Friday, so I've been chasing crates ever since. Got some good cards, but I'm not convinced anything other than the Trooper crate is really worth the credits.

Arcade seems to dish out credits regardless of whether you complete the missions or not, and regardless of whether it's a "new" one you've not done yet, or if you finished it weeks ago. I guess it'll be more regularly used than I'd previously anticipated - a guaranteed 500 credits a day should help with the grind. I just hope it gets some DLC love, and that the credit cap shite gets fixed.

Got the third gun as a heavy, loving the doubled damage. Way worth it over the worse rate of fire and cooling.

Finally managed to play Hoth tonight. It was worth the wait - it's the most like how battlefront should be from all the maps. Two AT-ATs attacking the base, you can jump in the dish and pillar turrets, and there are taun-tauns on the map that you can run up to and ride - just like vehicles /should/ be in the game!

I couldn't get a refund on this so opened it a few days ago (my Japanese skills couldn't grasp why exactly they can't refund game software).

Apparently since the weekend there has been a lot of lag and jerking about. Most maps seem fine but Kashyyk was pretty unplayable. Was like playing as Tracer constantly, jerking back and forward.

Yeah, a lot of people have been having lag issues, rubber banding and the like, on all formats. DICE is working on a fix, IIRC. In the meantime, exiting out of a laggy game and entering a new one is a good temp fix.

Last Jedi trailer world "Crait" screens sighted:

It's not really a fix though is it? Kashyyk is always like that for me, presumably because it's the most detailed map in the game (it's a real stunner, when it's not playing like a flipbook animation).

The game itself is decent. Great production values in the visuals and audio and nails the Star Wars feel (as did it's predecessor). While the gunplay has been beefed up, it's still quite arcadey, which is fine for short blasts, but I just can't see it as a game people can really sink their teeth in to, a game that really gets under your skin or people go crazy over. Ironically the star card system, completely removed from the microtransactions and slow progression, is a good one and allows a fair degree of customisation. The problem is the game is quite superficial, very much a popcorn game that you can dip in for twenty minutes without much trouble, but not something you would okay compulsively for months on end.

And I think this is largely because the game often seems to just pass you by. You might rack up kills and take objectives but it's all a bit manic and haphazard in my eyes. I feel like I could put the controller down and the battle would largely play out the same way without me. Unlike say, Overwatch where your "class" and powers can change the course of a battle, here it doesn't really feel like you affect the game much as your standard goon. It's all very attritional and often you find maps degenerate into long periods of running to a certain point and then that point being a tonne of people firing lasers and throwing grenades. The quick respawns and large player numbers often make it feel like you're just on a conveyor belt back to that choke point to kill or be killed.

They’ve got a world called Crait? Is it in the Lutebocks Nebula?

Kashyyk has had the most performance hits for me, but the game has never been too bad and my lag has been minimal.

The worst thing about Kashyyk is the glitch on entering the LAAT that can throw you out on foot into the sky where you can run around on an invisible ceiling shooting down into the world.

It's a beautiful map though

So Battlefront is basically responsible for lowering the value of EA stock by $3billion

I bet they'll blame it on everything but the loot box P2W fiasco. Probably shut down DICE because of it.

Skin customization definitely looks like it could happen - or that it was/is in the middle of development:

I hope, for the Clone legions, that customization is restricted to Blast Mode - it would ruin the immersiveness of Galactic Assault, and maybe Strike, to have, as MassiveG put it, "a rainbow of Clones" running about the battlefield. Blast just being a basic team deathmatch mode, I don't think it'd hurt too much to have legion preferences present there. There is scope for extensive armor customization within each legion, though - that would be awesome to see more of.

Meanwhile, the lack of changes on the progression front to ease the long, hard credit grind is giving rise to AFK players using rubber bands or machines to keep those credits rolling in:

Haven't come across any AFK players myself, yet, but it's only a matter of time. :dread:

My google searches suggest the hero crate is the best because you get a better scrap/credit return. I bought Luke, but now im not sure if i want to get another hero or buy crates. Hero crates or Trooper crates?

I'm switching to Hero Crates as I also Googled and got similar results. I don't know if you should continue going for the other heroes or focus on crates - both avenues will yield good results. I guess it depends on how often you intend to play as a hero in normal games, or how often you intend to play Heroes vs Villains.

If anyone wants the "Get 3 Vanguard kills in one go 5 times" milestone - the Killstreak Vanguard star card is very useful, as it extends your Vanguard timer every kill you get. The Assault Training card would be my other choice, as you'll get a health boost for every kill - important to surviving long enough to log that last kill in a close quarters fire fight. If you want a third card, I don't know what you'd go for, as I'm pretty comfortable maintaining my Improved Thermal Detonator card.

Try to outflank enemies if you can - catch groups as they pass you by, get behind them (places where they funnel through to the front are ideal) and wipe them out ASAP. Takodana, Jakku and Endor are where I've gotten my three Vanguard kill trios, all using roughly this method. You don't want to be noticed and targeted before you've had a chance to get a kill.

Edit: Bored at work, I've come up with a list of virtually every possible Hero character they could add in, for both ground and space combat. 21 per side on the ground, and up to 9 per side in space - including Rogue One and TCW, excluding Rebels, because they've already ruled out out for BF2 DLC for no bloody good reason at all. The trouble is that, in space, and without Rebels, the dark side has very few heroes they can draw on - at least without very heavily weighting their cast toward the prequels.

I hope that the next couple of Star Wars films add to the roster of Dark Side pilots. They could easily have a Red Baron analog in the new trilogy if they wanted.

Looks like new crates are on the way, linked to the Last Jedi events going on all December. This might be the big change that moves the game away from gambling that we've been waiting for. Maybe.
