News on what's to come this year:

We're working on a revamped progression system. Your feedback has been essential here, and we are preparing significant changes to progression that will address many of the things we've seen players asking for. We'll be sharing more details about these changes in March.

A game mode called Jetpack Cargo is coming in February. Two teams of eight players equipped with jet packs compete in Jetpack Cargo, a frantic, fast-paced way to play. This mode will only be available for a limited time, so don’t miss it.

A new Season is coming soon. We’ve learned a lot from the first season of content for Star Wars Battlefront II, and we're integrating those insights into our plans moving forward. We know you’re waiting for details on what’s coming in the next season, and we’ll have more to tell you soon.

Just give up the details already, Christ almighty.

Is it really worth changing things at this stage? The gaming press won't dare say anything positive for fear of an internet backlash so who is this actually for?

Me, apparently. :slol: The game will get renewed interest from players and newcomers whenever a new Star Wars film releases, so it's worth keeping an eye on.

I wonder if they will just go with a conventional time based upgrade tree?

You're probably right but the ridicoulous scores from Edge and the like will no doubt have a lasting effect for some.

The lootbox fiasco is such a shame as it really is a fun game beneath all of that.

Somewhat ridiculous though that the game has been out over two months and they've still not changed the progression system when they made it clear in the days before launch they would be doing so because of the intense (and you have to say justified) backlash. Those first two months are going to be where the progression makes or breaks it for a lot of players.

See I just don't agree, it's such a basic game whatbthe load outs really don't make a considerable difference to performance. Also the abundance of parts means you can get to the things you want to unlock quicker than a conventional time based progression system.

Don't get me wrong, it's not a mind blowing game by any stretch but the 4/10 scores are utterly ridicoulous and seeing as there haven't been paid for loot boxes from launch not justified.

Obi-Wan might be coming, by the looks of things. :datass: But by the sounds of things, we likely won't get any new Seasons of content for a good couple of months, at least - if we're lucky, there'll probably only be one per quarter. :(

Battlefront 3 and Respawn's Star Wars mentioned in EA earnings report...

EA [has] confirmed that the Star Wars action game from Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment is shooting for a fiscal year 2020 launch, meaning it’ll be released between April 2019, and March 2020.

Little is known about Respawn’s Star Wars title, as it was only ever mentioned in a supercut trailer of all of EA’s in-development Star Wars game. We do know it’s being lead by veteran Sony Santa Monica director Stig Asmussen.

In November last year, EA acquired Respawn Entertainment, and the Star Wars game was reconfirmed to be in-development.

Interestingly, CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed during the call that the publisher is not yet sure when Battlefront 3 will be released. For a while now, EA followed a two-year development/release schedule, with Battlefield and Battlefront alternating. Theoretically, this would put Battlefront 3 up for release sometime in 2019.

Looks like Respawn's Star Wars game (which will likely be multiplayer-heavy with a solid singleplayer if their record up to now is anything to go by) will be taking Battlefront 3's place in EA's alternating Battlefield-Battlefront schedule, meaning that Battlefront 2 probably has a good long life ahead of it.

If DICE is planning on having four DLC seasons a year, to match the four real world seasons (why else would they call it a season?), hopefully that'll mean there'll be a good 8+ DLC seasons of content ahead. By the twilight of its life, BFII should have a ton of content.

A season in USA talk doesn’t necessarily refer to spring/summer/autumn/winter, they use the same word for TV series. Even away from USAland a season doesn’t always mean the same thing. For example, in football a season is just the league/cup calendar.

Plus not everywhere on Earth has four seasons. ;)

I hear "season" and I think "quarter", and thus I assume four seasons a year, each with at least two maps and two heroes/villains.

Considering that the team working on the game is 110+ strong, I don't think that's such an unreasonable expectation to have.

A Rock Band season last 8 weeks with a 2 week break between each one. It varies between each game and what the developers want to do with it.

I would imagine for this game they'll run a themed season whenever a movie is about to come out, so once or twice a year.

Is the Battlefront II team still 100+ people? Surely most, if not all, are working on Battlefront III now?

The Battlefront II team is still enormous, yes, and since Respawn's SW game is taking III's place in EA's release schedule, I can only assume that it'll be on the back burner for a while yet.

They've invested a lot of resources and manpower into II, I can't see them dropping the team's size significantly this close to launch, despite the poor sales.

I'd like to see the devs release Starfighter Assault Mode for Arcade. I know there's a PC mod floating about that does this on that platform, but us PS4 players don't have the option. I only really play these games for Starfighter Assault. Growing up as a kid in the 70s when Star Wars first hit cinemas, this is what I wanted from a Star Wars game most of all.

A shame they never made the Death Star DLC playable against the AI in the last game, either. Such a waste.

Word on the car street is that a good amount of singleplayer content will be arriving with the next season. No word on Arcade Starfighter Assault though, but I know that it's one of players' big wants for the game. They've gotta be working on something there.

I've had it since launch on the Xbox One, and though playtime has reduced itself thanks to several reasons [one being some strange juttering that happens when in fast vehicles], I still like to jump on occasionally.
Also, I just love the fact I managed to get first on the leaderboard today in a game of Galactic Assault - though proceeded to ruin it the next game by getting down into the lower quarter.

I would love to see a new map that takes place aboard a Star Destroyer, or a Corvette like the one that crashed into the Death Star II (same design aesthetic as Leia's at the start of A New Hope). Tight corridors, intense battles for choke points, etc.

My best games are usually followed by my worst, too. Don't worry about it, sounds like you had a pretty good run though. :toot:

Oh, I certainly did.
And I'd love for a map in a Star Destroyer or other cruiser. The Tantive IV map on Pandemic's Battlefront 2 was fun to play on, and I think I remember a mod map for one of the two originals that had an actual Star Destroyer interior. From what I remember of that, it wasn't mapped very well for the AI, but the concept was another good one.

Patch stuff:
- Big patches are happening on an every-4-weeks schedule, with server-side patches taking place fortnightly.
- Next server patch is tonight, next big patch is around Feb 13th; it will contain the new Jetpack Cargo mode.

Stuff that's definitely happening:
- Clone Wars DLC is coming - Cpt. Rex hinted at.
- Era Selection is coming.
- Customization is coming.
- Droidekas and ARC Troopers are coming.
- New heroes, starfighter maps etc are all in the works.
- Some maps from SW Battlefront 2015 will be returning, but they haven't announced which. Sullust and Bespin would be my guesses, maybe the first Death Star.
- New Arcade mode content is coming, possibly in March - the goal is to have every world represented in Arcade, and every new world thenceforth will be in Arcade from the moment it arrives.
- A new timed mode for Arcade? Not sure on this one, but that's what it sounded like.
- A large new offline game mode is in the works, featuring vehicles and such. Offline Galactic Assault?

Possibilities for the future:
- A Conquest-like mode is under consideration, but they don't just want to port it over; it needs to be unique or whatever.
- Unknown if Solo content will happen when the movie hits, as DLC content schedule for the next few months is all but set in stone now.
