Night Dive have done such great work on their previous remasters and I'm looking forward to seeing how these two new titles turn out. I'm particularly keen to check out Turok 3 as the N64 really was sweating to get that running; I only played a little bit but it seemed to be very atmospheric and creepy.

It was good to also hear that Atari seems to be on the right path in terms of having owners who are genuinely passionate about bringing older games into the modern era. I haven't git it yet but it seems that the Atari 50 collection was a great start and I hope that their purchase of Night Dive creates further opportunities.

Nightdive Studios' remaster of cult hit shooter Star Wars: Dark Forces has been given a release date and is launching for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch on 28th February next year.

Sweet.

Still a bit fresh from plying it last year but I'll be picking it up.

I'm imagining a more bare bones effort than stuff like Quake 1/2 simply down to the lack of any expansion content and interesting ephemera to include.

I expect it'll be more in line with their remasters for Turok and Exhumed where its given all the technical upgrades it needs but without much more. Which is still gonna be worth getting I think. Dark Forces still holds up.

DF Tech Review

Looking good.

Game out Wednesday!

EDIT: On a related note we're delving into Jedi Academy online over the next couple of weeks if anyone wants to join in!

Looks like a great remaster! Sounds like it's good regardless which platform as well, other than the minor couple of bits that sound like they'll be getting sorted in the near future.

According to Johns twitter, the issues have been already sorted.

Any news on price? The game is listed on Steam but no option to order yet or any price listed.

Pretty sure it's £24.999 on Switch, so assume it'll be roughly around there on other platforms? Not picking it up at launch though.

Part of me is hoping that means existing owners are getting a free upgrade....

Either way I'll be getting this. As expected there's not much extra content (Just the usual artwork and stuff) but I like that they've added in the old E3/CES Demo that's never been released before.
A new set of levels would have been nice, but I guess that take money and a bigger dev team which I'm assuming was outside the scope of this.

Quake II I think is still the high-water mark for Nightdive remasters. Sooo much extra stuff. :D

As Robbo indicated, yeah, it's listed on the Switch eshop at £24.99. I'd imagine that some other platforms may have a 10% discount offer.

You can get the original for 89p (Steam) so I am also hoping for a upgrade on PC :shifty:

This looks great, but the player camera-bobbing might end up making me motion sick, it's so pronounced

Seems to be getting a good response.

Apparently it's technically flawless with a minimum locked 1080p/60fps on just about everything apart from Switch (But that has already been sorted in the next patch).

Main complaints seem to be with Dark Forces itself rather than the remaster. As a game it is a bit obtuse in places and it will expect you to scour levels from time to time. It's also not got a ton of replay value given there's no additional content beyond that one demo level.

But I adored the game back when it came out, I adored it when I replayed it through the community source port "The Force Engine" a couple of years ago and I'm sure I'll adore it again when I pick it up.

£24.99 on steam by the way.

There's an option to turn the head bob off to prevent just that. :D

How TF is this €30 when Quake 1 & 2 were a tenner each (+ free in GP)? GTFO!

To be fair Quake is owned by Bethesda/Microsoft at this point so it was always going to be free on gamepass.

Disney want paid.

Personally I think it's just about worth it, but I'm a massive fan of the game already so I would. :shifty:

They were still €10 to buy each, and are substantially larger games than this with entire new levels & campaigns added for free.

I could maybe understand €15-€20 but €30 can get teh fook!

Yeah I can understand that.

The lack of much in the way of additional content is the main drawback for me too

Quake/Quake II always had the benefit of decent numbers of expansions and loads of community content, as well as MachineGames contributing a new episode for each.
DF never really had a mapping community in the same way they did. So there wasn't any well known community content they could try and include. There were some, certainly, but it wasn't even a fraction of the size. Plus it never had MP to begin with so I was never expecting it to be added.

But it would have been nice to have something more to get our teeth into after the main campaign.

Personally I would have preferred £15 to £20 (I had hoped for a "free for existing owners" deal, but alas  ).
Hopefully It'll pop up in sales in a few months, which should get it down to that sweet spot.

But I'll be picking it up later tonight I think. Gotta show the support if I want more like it.

I really want a Jedi Knight remaster as it's the only one that never received ANY ports and it's a pain in the arse to get running on modern systems.
It's probably the one I've played the most as well. One of the few games I did on every difficulty (Both Light & Dark).

And semi-related but the online games of Jedi Academy we had last night were great fun. We're back again next week if anyone wants to join us. :D
