Depends what else you’ve got on the docket? If you’re not in any rush I’d definitely wait till it was cheaper, once the film is out of cinemas it’ll drop I imagine. It’s pretty good but doesn’t do anything special your missing out on by not playing it immediately. That said it’s solid enough action adventure and there’s fun to be had for 20+ hours so if you’re desperate for something to do over the holidays I do t imagine you’d be disappointed by picking it up at near full price.

It’ll be sub £20 within 6 months, probably a lot quicker.

If you're desperate for a Star Wars game to play, or what to capitalise on the new movie coming out and get in a SW mood (as I did), then it'll do the trick.

If you just want a game to play over the holidays, I'd wait. There are likely better games out there at cheaper prices, unless you've exhausted absolutely everything.

I was looking on the PSN store, and Spiderman, AC Odyssey and Resi 2, for example, are all £15-£20. I imagine they are probably better value.

For me, Fallen Order is a 7/10 or 8/10 game elevated somewhat by its license. If you really like Star Wars that's going to carry it some way, as I feel like in gameplay terms it's just a little too...average to be truly compelling.

Combat is fine, but sort of feels like Dark Souls with half a second timing thrown off. Human enemies are better than the animal ones by far, but still feels like they rely on the blocking to make things difficult (so far).

Level design is pretty uninspiring. It's not as clever or engrossing as Dark Souls or Metroid. A lot of it just feels like trekking through corridors, and the use of slides to take you down levels and deliberately leave you unable to go back and just press forward, is really overused and a crutch.

Unlockables mean the Metroidvania aspect isn't really that exciting either. Lightsaber upgrades are largely pointless, as most of them are only noticeable on the workbench and not in-game. This often makes backtracking or hunting out secrets a bit disappointing.

It's a good game, but definitely not a great one in my eyes.

Thanks guys think I’ll follow the advice and wait. I did just watch the film yesterday and I’m in the mood for it but I’ll pass. I know I’ll just hammer it & move onto something else. Got a lot of goodies this Xmas to tide me over. Thanks tho !

Playing this now.

Why is the combat so bad?

Even Battlefront 2's lightsaber combat is better than this.

It's a game with an extremely rough start. The lightsabre combat is actually great, but it takes almost the whole game to get used to. Unfortunately, they start you off against uninspiring bug enemies whose attacks aren't highlighted enough so they're easy to mis-parry.

Completed the story yesterday. What an ending that was.

It’s not, the parry doesn’t really work as well as it should and the whole thing feels a little bit laggy but it’s mostly fine and gets pretty good. There are some frustrating sequences and I’d say playing on higher difficulties is not worth the challenge, but there’s a lot of enjoyable stuff in there. Force pulling someone to you is clearly the meta.

Went back to the starting planet now I have a few more abilities, and found an abandoned workshop containing a double bladed lightsaber :toot: :datass: :datass: :datass:

And I fought for three hours or more to get it from Dathomir very early in the game.

It was worth it, even if there was no special cutscene.

I did this too, didn't seek it out just got to it very early by wanting to see each planet. Thought it was very odd how it just gives it to you in a very understated way.

It's an understated way because you have to fight for it, I feel. The raw achievement of earning something through skill rather than the wonder of finding it after gaining the ability to do so.

And done.

Pretty good game all in all, ending was a quality touch as well. Story went a bit wobbly in the middle but I really liked how it all wrapped up. Reckon a sequel could knock it out the park.

I just don't like the Souls/Bloodborne-esque combat mechanics. It shouldn't be this hard or frustrating to play a Star Wars adventure game. I am playing on Jedi Master difficulty though, like a chump, so I'll probably have to turn that down.

Other than that, it's a wonderful game so far. I went to Dathomir, saw the beastie wandering near the ship and noped the hell out of there to Zeffo.

Visually and musically it's a treat, I'm loving the various customisation mechanics, the Metroidvania style (dat Metroid Prime map tho  ), everything really but the combat.

Why not? Like, serious question.

I have my issues with the game, mainly the wonky animations and the empty-poncho main character, but the combat is great when it clicks. And obviously you should turn the difficulty down.

Because it's Star Wars, not Dark Souls - it should be fun and cool and not hair-pullingly infuriating. If you want a Souls-like game where you play a budding Sith on a dark and brutal journey, fine, but this ain't that.

Git gud?

I mean, not really but it's not that hard a game. Put it on a difficulty you can manage first, then enjoy the story as the combat comes into its own later on.

And Star Wars games have run the gamut from FMV space sims to shooters to dance dance games. There's nothing a Star Wars game shouldn't be

I started on Jedi Master, it’s absolutely not worth the frustration.

Kal is fine as a main character.
