I thought it looks great, is there really a negative buzz around the trailer?

I've seen mostly positive things - and I quite like it. Looks fun.

Its Star Wars so no matter how good people have to bitch and moan. If it is too faithful it is no innovating or moving the story forward, if they do something new it is ignoring the legacy and trying to change history.

Well it's better than the last trailer and there are some lovely images (the Star Destroyer under construction, the wiggly train, the SD emerging from some sort of space storm) but it's the plot that's going to make or break this and the trailer doesn't do anything to dampen earlier concerns.

Also, I strawberry floating hate what they've done to the Falcon.

tbf if you're doing a prequel it sort of makes sense to try and stick to what's already been said or done, and this Falcon redesign does neither :shifty:

Will be interesting to see how it evolves into the Falcon everyone knows, but from what's been shown so far the proportions are all out of whack.

Will probably still go and see it, but I wish they'd get some decent ship designers for these new films. There's been no decent new designs yet.

I especially dislike the stupid bomber design in Last Jedi, which relies on gravity to drop bombs on a target directly beneath it. Gravity. In outer space.

Well that has ruined it for me too now, I was happily oblivious to that

Liking the look of the Solo film with the new trailer. Wasn't a fan of The last Jedi, Some pretty scenes. But it just felt poorly acted and scripted. I'm pointing a finger at GOG for spoiling me in terms of Space filled fun.

What I don't get is why you'd replace Y-Wings with these slow as hell easy targets.

The gravity thing I just assumed was that the bombs gained their initial momentum and direction from the bombers own internal artificial gravity and so once in space they just continued in the same direction due to a lack of other forces acting upon them.

That's what I assumed as they didn't speed up or decelerate once dropped.

Star Wars is unwatchable as you can hear things during the space battles and there is no sound in space. And there is no such thing as “the force”, that’s just not true.

1/10 - unwatchable garbage that doesn’t respect science. :x It gets 1 point for the haircut the princess had.

The Resistance had to use whatever cast-offs the New Republic gave them. It's not like the NR was furnishing them with all the latest and greatest gear.

Y-Wings would have been the old cast offs from the Rebellion though.

The biggest failing of The Force Awakens was not illustrating the new galactic power struggle at all. It took a lot of reading around to realise the New Order and The Republic were basically warring states, and that The Resistance was a guerrilla group operating within New Order space with funding from The Republic.

Assuming that's correct, at no point does TFA (nor TLJ to be fair) ever make this clear.

Also, how strawberry floating needlessly complicated?

The First Order were actually a group within the New Republic I believe and were part of the Senate at first before eventually breaking away. They weren't just remnants of the Empire that clubbed together and suddenly appeared.

wtf

EDIT: I mean, this makes much more sense (and gives a smidgen of meaning to the name The First Order) but this is nowhere in the films. Where is this written, out of interest?

Still looks like a generic heist film with a Star Wars skin to me. Nothing has changed in that regard.
I don't doubt it'll at least be a fun film, but I still can't shake the feeling of generic heist film.

Jazzy new X-Wings and A-Wings but terrible big cumbersome hulking slow useless bombers?

Also RE: the First Order/New Republic thing, you'd think that a series that starts every film with a few paragraphs of text would be able to mention something like that in there...

X-Wings and A-Wings that were coming into service just after the Battle of Endor, 20+ years earlier. Hardly jazzy or new.

I was under the impression that the First Order was formed from what was left of the Imperial command structure. Following the defeat at Jakku, they renamed themselves the First Order and beat a hasty retreat to the top secret Starkiller base.

On the bombs and bombers...

The B/SF-17's intended purpose was to deliver a payload of 1,048 proton bombs on top of a target. The modular bombing magazine, called the "clip" by the bomber's crew, would drop the bombs through sequenced electromagnetic plates in the clip, which propelled the bombs to "drop" in microgravity environments. The bombs would then be drawn magnetically to their targets. The assembly could be programmed to drop specific sections of the payload in sequence, but the most common configuration was "deploy all.

...

Dating back to the final days of the Galactic Civil War, the New Republic contracted with Slayn & Korpil for the MG-100 StarFortress, a dedicated heavy bomber that could deliver a larger payload than starfighters. Part of the ship's intent was to help capture besieged Imperial holdouts. The ship saw reduced manufacture during the decades of peace that followed. The Senate's subsequent demilitarization effort sent many StarFortresses to the scrapyard. Other decommissioned craft saw widespread civilian use. Mining companies used them to drop explosives that broke up ice and rock, local governments deployed them as rescue ships, fuel tankers, and fire-fighting craft, and scout services relied on them for celestial mapping and exploration. The modular bomb magazine could be easily repurposed for remote cargo drops.

It's an old bomber and its bombs are propelled magnetically.
