Ive got to the second section of the second "level" and yeah - the map opens up and (xbox SX) begins to have framerate troubles. Knocking the "perfomance mode" off makes it better with a very noticable hit to the resolution. How is the PS5 in this region? It really shouldnt get like this. Its not unplayable but it is annoying.

In the (default) 30fps resolution mode, resolution scales dynamically from 972p (45 percent of 4K) at worst to 1242p at best (looking directly up at the sky, 57.5 percent of 4K). Cutscenes offer more resolution, at up to 1440p.

.........

As you might expect, the 60fps performance mode uses a lower range of internal resolutions, with menus suggesting a 1440p target (in comparison to a 4K target for resolution mode), but actual pixel counts revealing numbers between 648p and 864p upscaled with FSR 2 to 1440p. It's rare to see sub-720p internal resolutions on PS5 as we do here, but cutscenes do at least switch to a 30fps cap and therefore run at higher resolutions.

Well after having no real issues with Quality Mode (PS5) the observatory was a bit of a disaster.

5+ enemy combatants with electro swords/axes/hammers and ladders flying in all direction and it chugged.

Definitely think it’s lost a bit of its soulsbourne idenity - this feels more like Force Unleashed 3 in lots of ways.

No idea how far through I am (would guess 2/3rd+) and we’re heading towards the endgame. Narrative design says there’s gotta be a moment soon

Theres gotta be a twist or a swerve to set up end run - I’m getting a bad feeling about Bode. He’s new, the relationship never feels earned and it’s stressed he’s a ‘comrade in arms’ a bit too much. Coupled with talk of daughter he had to keep safe and I see a sell out/back stab coming

I’d suggest turning off fall damage too. There’s some nasty large fights later on which will leave you with little health. There’s then no enemies after them but can be long series of jumping puzzles before rest point

Im still in early game and have been (boringly) concentrating my skill points on extra life/force/stim etc. Are there any "goto" skills that you recommend taking?

All depends on playstyle and which stances you like. (It’s annoyingly hard to try perks out in the 5 stances, and feels wasteful when you can only pick 2. Id avoid putting much in sabres until you’re sure you like the style, but then some of the perks are stance defining…)

The Resi stuff is a good bet in general but I found the hold o to auto dodge pointless.
I’d get push up to the one that lets you push heavy things (Howling?). Pull is nice too but not as useful.
Confusion strong too. Using time/number of uses/type of targets.

It all depends on how you like to play.

Main thing I’d stress is despite it’s more action adventure style it’s still souls combat. Steady and considered actions, don’t spam

I'm further into the endgame than you, then, as I know what that twist is.

While Bode's betrayal is expected, the fact they made him a former Jedi too is just odd. Why? We've already had our mirror of Cal becoming consumed by his passion with Dagan. Surely it would have been better to keep him a a regular grunt to show it's a battle even non-Force users face? Perhaps the reasonings will all become clear with the finale.
But, hoo boy. Allowing us play as Cere defending the base was awesome. She truly feels like a powerful Jedi, easily cutting through troopers in seconds. And then... Vader. I had a feeling he'd be showing up somewhere, and wasn't disappointed. And we get to fight him. However, despite learning the patterns, it's still a tough fight. So tough I decided to drop it to story mode, which removed all the challenge from the fight with it being finished in a few seconds.
Think I'll leave it there, honestly, as I still get overwhelmed in even the smallest of fights at times.

Just done that bit

Its a proper Souls fight - all about timing and parry. No tricks.
Hate multiple phase fights though. Got through first 2 no damage on one run to immediately die in barrage of new moves.

Ceres death hurt but also they destroyed her life’s work. That’s a kicker

Yeah, it was the third phase where he starts chucking stuff at you that kept ruining me. Even avoiding a lot of damage to still have heals remaining, I'd just get one shot by whatever was thrown, as it felt there was little time to react.

And it did indeed hurt. Everything she's built, gone.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is this week's UK boxed No.1, and the second biggest game launch of the year.

The EA game sits behind Hogwarts Legacy but well ahead of Resident Evil 4 in this year's list of fastest-selling boxed games in the UK. It is also the eighth biggest Star Wars boxed release from the last 30 years.

However, the game's opening week's sales are 35% lower than what its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, managed. This chart is only boxed sales, and although Fallen Order was only released in 2019, digital accelerated quite a bit during the pandemic. Therefore, the comparison may not be quite so negative when the full data is in later in the week.

Jedi: Survivor also had a much higher retail price. Data firm GfK says the average physical selling price was £65.86 on PS5 and £67.72 on Xbox, which is over £10 more than what Jedi: Fallen Order was being sold for. As a result, revenue was only down 19% compared with its predecessor.

82% of the game's sales were on PS5, while 18% were on Xbox. Again, this will likely change when the digital data arrives, due to the popularity of digital on Xbox platforms.

Depressing. No wonder studios are happy to release unfinished messes.

Bloody hell. Not even “HD” in places. I expect the Series X will be similar.

Had a lot of crashing on Performance Mode on the PS5. Might just give this a rest until a patch rolls in.

Really want this and from what I understand the gameplay is pretty good but it’s a mess of performance issues, crashes and huge downloads. It’s also crazy that the retail disc version doesn’t actually contain the game and still needs a download, this rendering it pointless as in future the disc is just a coaster once the servers go down. Will never be a “retro game”.

I've not really had performance issues (series X) as far as I can tell. Although maybe I am struggling with the combat because it's dropping a few frames. I did have a crash on Sunday which lost me a fair bit of progress so I had a day off playing it yesterday.

The platforming is really quite poor though. Adding fall damage is intensely annoying. It's a really frustrating aspect that they got wrong there. I remember the first game wasn't too great for platforming but this feels much worse.

It does feel like it could have done with another 6 months of polish. I'm not really sure why they insisted on getting it out in April, surely a Sept-Nov release window would have been optimal for sales anyway?

It's a good game, but needs some proper patches. It just doesn't feel as tight as it should be. You can tell its an EA game.

Done and Dusted on Quality Mode PS5

A very good game, but that loses something that made the original such a gem. It's less soulsbourne, more uncharted. I basically one shot every (story boss) without any difficulty and the ending, whilst obviously could never be the same as FO, feels really lackluster and low impact. I don't think it helps that it's setting up a sequel. Not with a clear thread (e.g. ME2 to ME3) but this clearly isn't the end of the story,
