ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today at Star Wars Celebration, Respawn Entertainment, Electronic Arts, and Lucasfilm Games unveiled Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™, the next chapter of the beloved Star Wars action-adventure series chronicling the journey of Jedi Cal Kestis. Developed by the veteran team at Respawn under the leadership of game director Stig Asmussen, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will expand upon the iconic Star Wars stories, worlds, characters, and thrilling combat first experienced in the series’ debut title, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order™. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being built for the current generation of gaming hardware to create a deeper and more expansive Star Wars experience for players worldwide when the game launches in 2023.

“Even before completing Jedi: Fallen Order, our team had a vision of how to carry the adventure for Cal, BD, and the crew into the sequel,” said Stig Asmussen, game director, Respawn. “For Jedi: Survivor, we are working in lockstep with Lucasfilm Games to build on the legacy of Jedi: Fallen Order. We’re leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal’s story as he matures and survives during the dark times. We can’t wait to share more about the game with the world later this year.”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up five years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal must stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit as he begins to feel the weight of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy. Accompanied by his trusty companion BD-1, Cal will meet and ally himself with an array of unique and interesting characters on his journey. Jedi: Survivor will expand on the series’ dynamic combat in new and innovative ways. In order to survive, Cal must learn new skills and grow his connection with the Force.

“Millions of Star Wars fans have been captivated by the story of Cal Kestis, and we’re thrilled to be working with the world-class developers at Respawn to continue this epic tale,” said Douglas Reilly, vice president, Lucasfilm Games. “We could not be more excited to reveal Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and this next chapter of Cal Kestis’ journey with players around the world.”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available in 2023 and is being developed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Follow EA Star Wars on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date on the latest news surrounding Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

I wonder how they'll explain away the fact that Cal will have forgotten his Force Powers again

But yeah, dead excited for a sequel, loved the first game.

Jedi: Survivor takes place roughly concurrently with the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. That'll be interesting, since the Grand Inquisitor appears to be in both.

Like Samus losing her upgrades time and time again

But yeah, can’t wait for this, chances are I’ll be there day 1. Reckon I’ll give Fallen Order another play before this comes out next year, Fallen Order was top.

That's not the grand inquisitor according to other places I've read.

Hopefully they tone down the Souls type stuff in this one.

Just imagining the bloke walking down the street and people just coughing “generic” when they walk past him

Only thing I’d like to see changed with regards to this is EXP being kept rather than lost when you get killed, other than that I thought the system worked quite well.

I hope they keep the semi-linear structure and don't go for an open world.

Hmm, sure looked like him, but I'm always open to new characters.

Definitely hope they keep this, there was just enough to warrant going back to explore the almost Metroid inspired world structure but you didn’t need to if you just wanted to enjoy the story.

Aw, yeah. I didn't expect it to appear so soon, but here we are. It's official and there's so many questions that trailer brings. I do think this might be it until the end of the year, though.

Definitely needs to keep going with the Metroidvania world structure and maps.

Looks like Cal won't be stripped of his Force powers, going by the trailer; more likely he'll be stripped of his lightsaber, and the new upgradable weapon will be blasters.

I never got to the end of the first one, it was okay I guess but really lacked any kind of its own identity and personality - just a mish mash of Souls combat but worse, Metroid exploration but worse and Uncharted location hopping and spectacle... but worse

Really enjoyed the first, Cal and BD were a great pairing. Combat needs tweaking a bit as I found it a little janky. Some of the environments were a little corridor like to. There's plenty of room for improvement but Respawn are about as gold a pair of hands as you can get in gaming so really excited for this.

I don’t think he’ll lose his powers. The tree/diagrams whatever you call it for the powers & skills on the first game went on and on even when you maxed out which I took as it indicating there was more he can learn in another game.

I think I’ll wait to see reviews of this one. The first was enjoyable but frustrating at times, the lack or poor navigation of where to go was a real annoyance & some of the worlds just felt empty and bland to me.
