If I buy the Origin version does that mean I can't play with any of my Steam friends?

I got the Origin version myself.

TLDR is that it is based around your EA account. So Steam and Epic users will be prompted to link to, or create, an EA account.

You can then add that EA account to your in-game friends list.

This game in VR is amazing. Holy gooseberry fool the cockpit looks so incredible and being able to look around especially in the rebel ships is great.

So I played the first mission with my X52 HOTAS and on my Oculus Rift....

Image

They've strawberry floating nailed it straight out the gate. This is everything I could possibly have imagined when I was 12 and just discovering X-Wing and TIE Fighter back in the mid-90's.

It wasn't without it's nitpicks though.

Initial loading times are substantial. If you can, install to an SSD, but I would hope they patch it as it's just on the wrong side of obnoxious.
VR mode kept crashing me to desktop. Switching to borderless windowed mode instead of fullscreen fixed that.
Not all of the default controls were mapped as I would have thought for the X52. I had to manually tweak a few things, such as inverting the Y-Axis so that pulling down on the stick moves you up in the game, putting the throttle onto the actual throttle and swapping roll and yaw. By default Yaw was on the X-Axis with roll on the "Twist" Axis, which just felt really weird. Swapping it over felt much better.
I did have one total crash where I had to quit the game.

But the actual flight, and combat, once you've started to aclimate to the controls and systems is simply wonderful.
And the VR.... oh baby the VR. If you liked the cockpit in the Battlefront VR mission you're in for a treat. It's strawberry floating wonderful.

I'll be playing more of this tomorrow. I'll probably stream it as well if I can.

If this can maintain the quality and keep it going it might be my GOTY.

It does sound amazing, I'm so gutted I completely ruined VR for me forever when I pushed it for too long playing the Battlefront mission and threw up - now I can't play anything in VR without feeling nauseous :(

Any PSVR impressions? Also, am iright in thinking itsa fundamentaly a multiplayer game and the SP is like an extended tutorial? I dont play multiplayer much, and i dont even have PS+, so that would lessen the appeal significantly for me.
I loved the Battlefront VR demo and that COD VR one from a few years back.

I hadn't even realised this was VR compatible (or even out now). That's very exciting news!

Hang on, are EA games coming to Game Pass? Will this be on there? How do I even launch VR games from the Xbox app?

Whats the deal with PS VR? Is there gonna be an updated unit for PS5?

Trying to decide if this is worth it diving in...

Yeah, EA's own game pass thing was added to actual Game Pass a few weeks ago. The news got a bit lost after the Bethesda thing

Do EA games usually go up on launch on their pass though?

Current PSVR will work on ps5 (with a free camera adapter coming at some point). There will be a big upgraded psvr2 at some point no doubt.

PSVR is apparently good, but a little fuzzy at distance.
MP is where the main focus is from what I've heard. But the campaign is apparently 10 hours long and it's been reviewed well.

I bought it last night at 11:30 and got the code immediately. Double check your CDKeys emails as there should be a "Get Code" option on one of them.

PSVR will work on PS5, though you will need an adapter to use the existing camera which Sony are apparently sending out for free (no more details on when/how though).

The PC part isn't being added until December but it isn't clear how VR will work. Another issue is that EA Play has two tiers, basic and pro. It looks like Squadrons is only on the pro tier for now so it may not be rolled into Game Pass as the pro tier is £15/month. Of course, if the pro tier is added to Game Pass that would be fantastic value.

VR mode is just a Toggle in the options. So you open the game, choose the option and it ties into your PC headset. The Xbox app shouldn't make any difference.

The get code link on the email just gives me "code available soon" message. They're usually pretty swift with codes so I'm wondering if something's gone wrong. Lotta people moaning at them on twitter about it :dread:

Sony has indicated that the current PSVR kit will be compatible with PS5 although an adapter will be needed to connect the PS4 camera; this adapter will be free but it's not yet clear how to obtain one. Sony has yet to say whether the new PS5-specific camera could be used instead.

We don't yet know if all existing PSVR games will run on PS5. In line with standard games, I'd expect most of the major PSVR games to run but we'll have to wait and see. It's currently unconfirmed as to whether PS5-specific games will be built for current PSVR, or if a PSVR 2 will be released.

Personally, I'd love to see PS5-specific games arrive for the existing kit and then have PSVR 2 arrive, say, late 2022.

It's not full VR support, but it's got head tracking. You need to play with a gamepad, flightstick or keyboard and mouse.
