I was debating whether or not to make a topic for it, but it seems right to do so, even if there's not much interest.

The rumours were true, and this is a 5v5 starfighter combat game, with a singleplayer campaign to help players get into it. From the description in the video, it's definitely a more technical flight sim rather than what was available in Battlefront, which should make it stand out and be its own thing. I suspect we might see some gameplay at EA Play, which should further highlight those differences.

From the description in the video:

ALL WINGS REPORT IN – Plan skirmishes with your squadron in the briefing room before taking off to the evolving battlefields across the galaxy. Compete in intense 5v5 multiplayer dogfights or unite with your squadron to tip the scales in monumental fleet battles. Together, you’re the galaxy’s finest.

MASTER LEGENDARY STARFIGHTERS – Take control of different classes of starfighters from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets – including the agile A-wing and the devastating TIE bomber. Modify your ship, divert the power between its systems, and destroy your opponents in strategic space dogfights.

GET IN THE COCKPIT – The cockpit is your home. Use its dashboards to your advantage and – with just a thin hull of metal and glass between you and the perils of space – feel the intensity of combat from a first-person perspective. Take off in thrilling multiplayer modes and a unique single-player Star Wars story, which covers a key campaign near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Immerse yourself in the pilot’s seat completely with the option to play the entirety of Star Wars: Squadrons in Virtual Reality on PlayStation 4 and PC.

THE MISSION IS CLEAR – Star Wars: Squadrons is a fully self-contained experience from day one, where you earn rewards through play. Climb the ranks and unlock new components like weapons, hulls, engines, shields, and cosmetic items in a clear path for progression that keeps gameplay fresh and engaging.

Ah you beat me to it!

Looks great from the trailer and it's making all the right noises for me. I think we're probably gonna see something mid-way between the old X-Wing/TIE Fighter games and the Rogue Squadron games. Oh and it's fully playble in VR and has crossplay...

Really hope the single player is decent. Couldn't care less about a 5 v 5 multiplayer. Sounds so... unimaginative :slol: Like what actual battle in Star Wars has there ever been where they just throw a few lads together to shoot at each other? They're always fighting for a *reason*, there's always an objective, rather than just "kill da other team"

The fleet battle thing might be ok, where you're trying to take down a flagship, but it doesn't inspire me.

Fully playable in VR is pretty fancy, though.

There's also a full gameplay reveal on Thursday at their EA Play thing apparently.

"Star Wars™: Squadrons full gameplay reveal @ EA Play Live, June 18, 4pm PDT"

I've been wanting a new X-Wing game for soooooooooooo long. Really hope that this can scratch that itch. I'm also hoping that the Single-Player missions are more than just 5v5 and allow you to partake in proper full size battles.

God we need to get a group of us if this turns out good.

I'm genuinely really excited for this. :D :D :D :toot: :toot: :toot:

EDIT: At this point I'm literally just waiting for them to EA the strawberry float out of this and feel my joy drain away.

I know its only a CG trailer, but it looks great. VR means I'm in! Hopefully I can use my HOTAS on it.

Oh and they can strawberry float off the moment I hear anyone so much as mention the Force. No Jedi-thank-you-very-much.

Well, I'll be missing out on that gameplay reveal, then. Least I can catch up on it the next day.

Literally says at the start of the trailer it's game engine footage, not CGI.

Is this likely to be Warzone/PubG meets X Wing and then full of microtransactions or are we more positive?

Always got a kick out of Starfighter Assault in Battlefront II so I'm up for more of the same with a decent narrative. I'm not expecting much on that front, just so long as it's not too generic and that the online portion gets a solid backing.

It's definitely not a battle royale. Just a simple 5v5 combat game with a lot of customisation - that so far involves no MTXs.

Interested but I was hoping it would be more players than just 5 vs 5.

Man, I'd love if the customisation options included like a paint-job creator like in the Forza games :datass:

VR means this is day one for me. The Battlefront VR mission is my single greatest gaming experience ever.
