I'm proper rubbish at this (Ranked Maverick after 10 matches)

Ywing/Bomber with multilock missles and mines is amazing though.

Game seems to be quite unstable with VR on PC at the moment.

I hit what turns out to be a super common issue earlier today where at the end of Mission 2 the game will just completely crash to desktop if you're playing in VR mode. I tried some suggested workarounds like making sure the game was in Borderless rather than Fullscreen and reducing Volumetric Quality from Ultra to Medium, but these didn't work (Those fixes seem to work more for VR crashes when trying to enter multiplayer) so everytime you get to the end of Mission 2 the game completely crashes. The only way to get past this was to complete the mission when not in VR and then switch back to VR afterwards. Unfortunately in the briefing for the mission afterwards the game completely hung for a little while before crashing again.
Looking around online these seem to be common problems with playing the game in VR on PC regardless of headset being used.

It's a real shame because when the VR works the game is amazing to play. For now I'm going to wait on a patch or two to hopefully make the PC VR experience a bit more stable.

Anyone been trying this through Oculus Link (specifically on og Quest)? The VR integration already seems busted and i can't imagine the finnicky layers the Link introduces behaving great with it.

Did the singleplayer mission with the introduction to the Y-Wing yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed bombing everyone. I really missed bombing stuff in Battlefront like I used to in Rogue Squadron. A good return to form.

I wish there was better balancing to this than just sticking one level 40+ player on each team of newbies :slol: Just won a game where the player top of the team had fifteen kills and I managed two.

Peak active players have apparently gone from 35000 at launch to around 3000-4000 now so that's probably why.

Not great for a game that's predominantly online :slol:

It's a really small game though, compared to the likes of Battlefront, plus the fact it works better in VR automatically limits the scope of the audience.

I've really been enjoying it. Played online a few times, lost more than I've won, still a low rank, but I've had fun.

I agree with sentiments expressed previously in here that there is potentially a Battlefront-sized game here, if EA Motive can get the green light to make such a thing.

It could have:
• Maps and starfighters from all three SW eras.
• More new starfighters; TIE/rb, etc.
• New class(es) of starfighter, e.g. Heavy?
• Playable small cruisers (Gozanti size)
Temporarily playable Corvette-size ships (jump in for 90 seconds)
• Cruiser battle more
• Hero ships

EA Motive just accidentally leaked that it's working on a new IP and a new Star Wars action game, so maybe, maybe.

The Origin version has had a few VR patches so I gave it another go today and it was way more stable, though loading times seem to have increased.

I gave Multiplayer a shot as well, but it seems pretty weighted in favour of the Rebellion side with their ships having shields.

Next gen updates -

PlayStation 5

Star Wars: Squadrons runs with improved lighting on PS5 at the same resolution and framerate as the PS4 Pro.

Xbox Series X/S

Star Wars: Squadrons offers up two options on Xbox Series X/S: better visual quality or better performance. Better visual quality means an improved lighting model, running up to 2160p/60 FPS on Series X and up to 1440p/60 fps on Series S. Better performance takes that same resolution and bumps it up to up 120 FPS on both of Xbox's consoles. If you have a television that supports Variable Refresh Rates, Motive added a toggle in the menu for that.

But what about their VR capabilities?

I tried playing Squadrons without VR and I couldn't. VR starfighter combat is the only way I can play now. I really want to see how Battlefront ground combat does in VR.

"There is an update available. Scan the QR code to learn more."

Or you could just tell me about the update in the news screen of the game. Y'know, the game I'm looking at. Right now.

I've got my headset on, I ain't scanning gooseberry fool.

I do pretty well in the A-Wing these days. It's just as effective as in Battlefront, but the customization options make it so much better.

Just had a look at the custom games and the wealth of options is fantastic, but they've done that stupid thing where you don't earn *anything* for playing a custom game (no XP, rewards, or achievements), which is a bit gooseberry fool.

The new fighters are in the game now. I've not had much of a chance to play as either, but other players in TIE Defenders have been killing me pretty good, and been hard to kill in return, which tracks since they are absolute beasts in Rebels. I've knocked a few B-Wings out, but they seem good to play as, too.

I believe they're both classed as Bombers - the B-Wing certainly is, at any rate. Gonna take some getting used to.

With the epic £10 voucher thing this is down to just over a tenner so I might give it a go, at least for the single player.
