Just got back from seeing this. Really rather enjoyed it.

It was the first time I'd been to a cinema with such hype in there. People dressed up and clapping and cheering etc. It was fun and not too annoying which surprised me.

Visually the film is stunning. Cinematography was sublime in most of it and the space battles really did look great.

The film was basically A New Hope, but whatever, it was still very enjoyable. I will never understand why they build these death stars with no protection and only about 10 guards.

The reveals were very well done too. Got a wee bit emotional at parts. I think they enjoyed getting all the little references in too. Quite amusing at times.

I think realistically I'd give it a 7 but part of me wants to give it more. So maybe an 8. Not sure.

Things I liked

[inlinespoilerSpecial effects were wicked
The whole Binks thing. Still end fight is awesome.
The new ATAT's are ok, but thought they would have evolved more.
Anakins ghost kinda worked. Slowed things down so you could catch your breath.[/inlinespoiler]

Things I didn't like

Too much politics talk again
The whole Darth Vader Daughter thing
The gay "funny" Sidekick alien. But I guess it sells toys.

I wasn't ready.

People walked out buzzing. I was still crying. I'm still crying now.

I can't believe they did this.

HOLY gooseberry fool

That was incredible. Like, I had goosebumps the whole way through, and I don't really know what to do to calm myself down now. I'm so hyped up.

The new characters are all great, Kylo Ren was badass, Rey & Finn have a great chemistry, Poe will be the new Solo.

I'm hoping the major death isn't going to be for nothing. If Kylo Ren was still on the planet when it blew up i'll be disappointed he's not coming back in Episode VIII and they've killed off such a big character to someone who they introduced with his backstory & then killed off in the same film.

I don't really know what to say, i'm just on such a high right now.

Absolutely BRILLIANT. Still buzzing an hour later.

Spoilers about the movie ahead.

The only two things that bummed me out were Han being killed and Luke only appearing in one tiny scene as sequel bait, but these are disappointments based on expectations and not a fault of the movie itself. BB8 is gonna be HUGE. I laughed so many times, the "thumbs up", especially. The entire cast was terrific. It was great to see Harrison Ford play such a big role and actually look like he was enjoying himself acting again. He had a great energy.

Overall, about a 9 out of 10. JJ Abrams really strawberry floating delivered. Can't wait for the next one.

Here we go....

I'm glad they got Ren being Han and Leia's son out of the way fairly early, given most predicted it. They've set themselves a huge task assuming BEN ( :o :o :o ) Solo's redemption is the arc of the trilogy, given what he did! The use of Captain Phasma was very disappointing. She was fine until her last scene when Chewie decked her and she did as she was told. I hope she's back and gets a better showing next time round. Shame General Hux survived because he was shite. I was absolutely delighted with that final scene, perfect end.

I thought he was great. A total son of a bitch and somebody to really root against. The scene with the big speech from the trailers was a highlight.

The film was awesome, totally delivered! I have a few minor gripes but it does a hell of a lot right. I love the new characters and the casting was perfect, there is so much energy on the screen.

Definitely going to have to see it again.

I echo the sentiments that it was absolutely fantastic. Not perfect, but it's still utterly brilliant. It had surpassed the prequels within 5 minutes of starting.

So pros:
Rey, Finn, Po and Kylo (Ben) were all great. Characters with some actual depth that I want to know more about. Especially Rey.
Harrison Ford was great. What a high note for the character to go out on.
Dogfights were fantastic. Great energy to them and I'm already dreaming of a new X-Wing game with those battles.
Best reveal of the movie went to C3P0.
Perfect level of fan-service and callbacks without being ridiculous.
Genuinely funny.
Some real questions left unanswered.
REAL props and sets!
Stealth Max Von Sydow appearance.
BB-8 is genuinely as charming and funny as R2 and 3P0.
No over choreographed ballet-esque Lightsabre battles.

Cons:
Han.
Felt the music was a little underwhelming at times.
Camera moves and angles. Felt too different from the previous movies at times. For all their problems the prequels at least had similar cinematography to the originals. This definitely feels like Abrams at times.
The few minutes where I thought they'd killed off Chewie as well.
Not enough "classic" aliens. Would have been nice to see at least a few Twileks, Jawas and other aliens from the previous movies. Unless I missed them.
No 20th Century Fox fanfare at the start was REALLY weird.

I will add that all of the cons I mentioned are so minor as to almost not be worth mentioning. I loved this movie.

Just booked to go see it again tomorrow afternoon on my own. I don't care, I just need to see this again.

I'm getting goosebumps still - just from reading this thread. I actually cried tears of joy and sadness.

The bit with the lightsaber stuck in the snow gave me a nerdgasm.

Just some general thoughts, still buzzing after tonight.

Trailers: Superman V Batman got visible groans from inside the cinema and seeing the trailer on a bigger screen is even worse, every plot point seems to be in that trailer and everyone thought Bale's Bat Voice was bad :fp:

Star Wars

Loved it, respectful in story and tone. Lots of nods to A New Hope, basically A New Hope reskinned but still fantastic for it. Thank god Han and Leia didn't kiss, a loving hug was a better compromise. Carrie Fisher is turning into Janette Crankie and can barely open her mouth from all the surgery. There were a lot of great laugh-out loud moments.

Great atmosphere @ the Metrocentre tonight.

My prediction before going was:
Han to be killed by Luke, who then follows in his fathers footsteps, film ends on a cliffhanger setting up a brother / sister showdown in the next Episode.
. Sort of right about one thing.

8/10 from me.
