I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an asteroid to the knee

There's a nip in the air. Class L atmosphere won't be good for my crops.

I'm assuming E3 will be the big showcase.
I'm interested but I'm tired of games being announced this early and then having to sit through years of pr bullshit.

Dang, man, I'm still gutted that MS bought Bethesda. As a fan of games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls, I knew it was gonna be tough seeing future titles appear exclusively on Xbox (Game Pass) but it is slowly feeling a little more real now. I wonder if more folk will switch to Xbox... or if fewer folk will play the games?

Edit: If anyone is interested in the PlayStation perspective of the buyout and it's impact on gaming, please check out my post in the PS5 thread and chat there rather than de-railing this Starfield game thread. Ta!

Think you need to put your squirrel fighting fund, no Switch OLED, your current fund to save up and buy a Series S when Starfield comes out Jawa :datass:

Haha, definitely no more consoles for me at the moment, Robbo. Even the Amico is outta the question!

Both

The sales of e.g. Skyrim across non-xbox platforms seems like an insane potential to hope to translate into people switching ecosystem, it must be more long term in building the value of gamepass especially as it becomes more accessible streaming through other devices that people already own (so the entry cost is just the subscription, not a hard-to-buy and expensive console plus subscription).

I remember posting that I reckon these games will be exclusive to Xbox and PC and the majority of folk disagreed, something about money on the table? :slol:

The disagreement was that you couldn't see the reasoning behind why they might not be exclusive - going exclusive is leaving money on the table in losing out on some of the extra sales this would make on playstation.

Supporting more platforms has an increased development and support cost, of course, but it'd be a safe bet that would be more than offset by the extra sales on that platform for this or a new Elder Scrolls especially.

Being exclusive there will be some people who would have bought it on playstation given the choice but will now buy it on PC or xbox, or subscribe to game pass, and even go out and buy an xbox (if they can) to play it. I doubt in isolation that will offset the potential revenue from releasing on playstation - but that's presumably been weighed up against the wider and longer term effect of making this exclusive to increase the value of xbox and game pass.

My additional argument in favour of a multiplatform release was that, unlike in previous generations, there would still be an incentive to favour the xbox ecosystem over getting the game on playstation because of the imbalance in value between buying the game at full price and subscribing to game pass. I think that's still a relevant point, it just obviously wasn't a deciding one!

Join me on a trip down memory lane after I posted that I think Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6 etc will be PC Xbox Exclusive:

This, I really don't understand how people don't see this it's really simple.

I didn't understand.

jawa wrote:Dang, man, I'm so unsure about the deal. It is going to influence my next console choice as I just wouldn't want to miss out on, say, Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5.

This was never going to happen.

jawa2 wrote:I'll be surprised if Microsoft are willing to pay out that kinda money and have games published on platforms other than Xbox.
Bingo.

jiggles wrote:The only way it seems to make any sense for Microsoft financially is to put them on Gamepass but still release elsewhere full price. Extremely high value add for their service without giving up literal billions in sales
On brand.

Tomous wrote:I think they're going to release the big titles on PS5 but with timed Xbox exclusivity.

To be fair, and because most of the forum was posting that they reckon it'll be multi-plat I recanted a little:
Photek wrote:I reckon announced or soon to be announced games will hit PS5, Starfield, TES and Fallout 5 will have maybe a year exclusivity on Xbox/PC and a few others will be fully exclusive.

jawa seemed very unsure about that console decision but, dang, jawa2 sure had his finger on the pulse :datass: .
