I think you'll find this was my final position:

OrangeRKN wrote:The disagreement was that you couldn't see the reasoning behind why they might not be exclusive - going exclusive is leaving money on the table in losing out on some of the extra sales this would make on playstation.

Supporting more platforms has an increased development and support cost, of course, but it'd be a safe bet that would be more than offset by the extra sales on that platform for this or a new Elder Scrolls especially.

Being exclusive there will be some people who would have bought it on playstation given the choice but will now buy it on PC or xbox, or subscribe to game pass, and even go out and buy an xbox (if they can) to play it. I doubt in isolation that will offset the potential revenue from releasing on playstation - but that's presumably been weighed up against the wider and longer term effect of making this exclusive to increase the value of xbox and game pass.

My additional argument in favour of a multiplatform release was that, unlike in previous generations, there would still be an incentive to favour the xbox ecosystem over getting the game on playstation because of the imbalance in value between buying the game at full price and subscribing to game pass. I think that's still a relevant point, it just obviously wasn't a deciding one!

I don't know man you made some bad arguments too imo:

OrangeRKN wrote:MS don't care about console exclusivity as evidenced by everything being on PC, by previous acquisitions like MInecraft, by a willingness to put games out on Switch, and by interviews where they position themselves as not wanting to compete on traditional console terms but instead in focusing on game pass as a subscription service.

There is a PR hit to taking an incredibly popular multiplaform series like TES and making it exclusive which I think they would rather avoid.

I disagreed with everything in this post at the time, (it's NOTHING like Minecraft) but your original arguments are understandable.

More alarming was after the acquisition was finalized and the famous round table more people reckoned these game would NOT be exclusive. It seemed, Jawa, MCN, Garth and Monkey were the only ones who more ore less got it right in the end.

Photek acting like he's GRcade's Nostradamus

Plenty of us predicted that the Bethesda buyout would lead to future games being MS exclusives

Obviously MS are treating Bethesda games differently to Minecraft, why is that? Genuine question, not being rhetorical!

Minecraft itself is an ongoing release that was already multi-platform before MS bought it, but Minecraft Dungeons could have been exclusive to xbox but wasn't.

There will be a PR hit in that people will be annoyed when Starfield and more likely the next Elder Scrolls are xbox exclusive, because that was a multiplatform series. I'm sure there are loads of casual Skyrim fans out there who have no idea about MS buying Bethesda and will be annoyed when they find out they can't play Skyrim 2 on their playstation. I was wrong thinking MS would want to avoid that, but it will still be a thing.

Is it a thing though? I think I argued this at the time but the people annoyed will fall into 1 of 2 camps-PS5 owners that decide to get an Xbox (win for Microsoft) or upset PS5 owners that don't decide to get an Xbox (not a win but not really a loss either). I just don't think Microsoft are going to care about PS5 owners being upset with them!

I really don't think it's that big a deal, especially in the wider market.

No offence Photek, but sometimes you come across as a bit of a knob. Nothing had been confirmed either way at that point, it's perfectly acceptable to question these things and give reasons why they might or might not happen. You can't use this stuff as some sort of gotcha when it turns out your prediction was right.

Jesus, Chill. It’s not a dig at anyone, and not a gotcha either. If it is offensive to you well ‘No offence’ then I guess.

I even called out myself.

This, I really don't understand how people don't see this it's really simple.

I didn't understand.

I’m a knob for one small line at Errkals post.

I do agree with OR though, having Minecraft dungeons still multiplatform while they could have gone exclusive is a little odd, do they assume there isn’t a crossover at all between people who play Minecraft and then games from Bethesda? Hence there’s more chance people will buy an Xbox, or a Game Pass sub on their PC?

I still reckon there’s a very slim chance it’ll be rumoured to be coming to the PS5 a year after it’s initial release, it’ll do great for Xbox and Game Pass subs, then they can sell the game full price on the PS5 to earn them a bit more pocket change
