Clicking on left stick is light for me and right stick is crouch. I'm also pretty sure in this 'new' edition you can remap all controls in settings. I like that the moved dodge and crouch to different buttons though, both used to be B which was stupid. I'm playing Heartland, I've already lost one of my survivors, god speed Malik.

Here he is escaping death about an hour before his actual death after a horde attacked our camp, Ferals absolutely wrecked my squad.

It's definitely a step up visually on Xbox.

To me it really doesn't look much better (Not tried on my X yet)

Thats an old screenshot so just popping it there while I try and find the spot it was taken and do a comparison with the Juggernaut Edition.

Played this for the first time in ages today. Was fine playing it out and about killing Zombies but completely forgot what to do with all the mechanics in the base. Have to do some researching online to refresh my memory.

I played this for the first time a couple of days ago. It seems really good but it’s just too complicated for me and there are too many mechanics for me to master. I bet it’s great if you are playing in co op with a similarly enthusiastic mate.

Perfectly fine on your own, I’ve joined about 2 games in all the hours I’ve put into it.

Yeah I’d argue that SOD2 would be better as a single player game. Mainly because the co-o is hugely comprised through having to stay within a certain distance and, well, having another player who can’t be a member in your settlement makes it pointless.

They’ve been working on an MMO zombie game now for years, now that MS bought them, maybe it will see the light of day because as a zombie survival game, it’s certainly has a niche within a niche.

I guess it’s just a me problem and I can’t get my head around all the systems. I have done some reading up etc but I’m still finding it too confusing, which is exacerbated my the pressure of time passing.
Great game though, I can really see the appeal.

No real reading required tbh, just set up
Base then have enough beds, that’s almost all you need. When find bigger base move there. Everything is explained in game by just reading descriptions. Push up on D pad to ask for resources (food, ammo, medical, construction materials) and they’ll show up on map so you can go get them. Construction materials are important as you can’t upgrade anything without them. For Instance up grade beds to bunk beds thus adding more places to sleep.

If anyone offers to join you take them in, they are almost always a benefit to your group.

Thanks. Interesting about pressing up to see nearest resource. I saw something in the tutorial about pressing rb, but then a swarm of other messages appeared and I never managed to find when I was supposed to be pressing it.

Bumping an older thread..... I’ve started properly playing this solo as a result of the latest set of Rewards challenges. It’s totally got me hooked despite me thinking it wouldn’t really be my sort of thing.

I’ve got 8 survivors at present, moved to a bigger base where I’ve set up a garden, workshop, lounge, infirmary and got 7 beds dotted around. It’s quite well protected with chain link fencing all around and some unclimbable hills right behind it (hoping the zeds don’t do what I do and climb/fall down them to get to the base quickly from those parts of the map behind the base!).

Secured 5 outposts dotted around, supplying power, building materials, fuel, ammo and water. Finding materials has been my biggest challenge but I seem to have got on top of that now and am careful to not upgrade or build too fast to deplete my materials down to 1 or 2.

Base morale is high with everyone empowered apparently.

Sure, it’s not the best looking game, but it plays well (XSX)

Met my first juggernaut last night and emptied all my ammo into him and then scarpered as he was still coming! Luckily most of my characters have full cardio stars now.

Have killed 1 plague heart and revealed several others. Need to kill a 2nd to complete this months Rewards challenge but whereas that would see me stop playing and uninstall a game, I’m definitely going to keep this in my cycle of games to rotate through.

I'm glad it's found another player that 'gets it'. To me it's quite a heady mixture of resource management and Zombie survival sim. There is a risk/reward mechanic that I love generally in games, especially with the perma death. If you emptied 1-2 magazines into a juggernaut he was most likely a few shots away from being downed (when I say downed, he goes down on one knee - run up to him and hit Y and you'll jump on his back and stab him to death).

5 and a half days total in playtime, I get it too you know

I ended up buying the game rather than use the GP version in case my sub ever ended.

I've put a couple of hours in to it too, partly from the Game Pass quest and partly after reading this thread. Quite enjoying it, running over a horde of zombies is incredibly satisfying. Unsure whether I'll progress past the second plague heart but it might be something I take a break on but return when I fancy it.

Destroyed my 2nd and 3rd plague hearts now. Met another Juggernaut and thought I’d run him over. Took a few goes in my SUV but I just about managed it with the bonnet on fire. A quick repair in a safe location sorted me out.

Up to 11 survivors now and got 3 heroes so far out of them. Upgrading base slowly but most plots are max level 3 now. It’s getting a bit more frantic at times mainly due to the random missions popping up with a finite (but unknown amount of) time to complete the mission.

Have found myself at least half the map away doing some scouting or infestation clearing when the mission pops up and I get so engrossed in what I planned to do that I don’t get to the mission quick enough.

One of the other factions didn’t take kindly over the radio (brilliantly called The Shitkickers! ) but so far I haven’t had them turn on me - I presume that’s a possibility?

My 10 & 12 yr olds are enjoying watching me kill tons of zombies. I’ve almost earnt the “kill 1,000 zombies“ achievement, but I see there’s another for killing 10k!

Question - my command centre has done the “reveal other areas” thing so I see a few exit points dotted around the edge of the map. If I venture to one of them, can I
a) take my base with me?
b) return to my current base if not?

I’ve maxed out (?) the number of outposts seemingly at 6. Is there any way I can get a further base or more outposts? I’d like to build a watchtower but no plots available. Tempted to destroy my level 3 lounge for it, but I like the option to have a movie night, or a piss up to keep morale high.

 this game

Fake edit: love the passengers opening the car doors to kill zeds shuffling by as I drive by them. Neat touch!

You don’t ‘take your base with you’ but you have the same amount of Influence so essentially when you find a new base you can pretty much kit it out fully, beds first is a must. I’ve never gone back to an old map yet so I don’t know.

I’m definitely approaching the end of this map. Destroyed 5 out of the 6 plague hearts and all infestations cleared so as and when a new one rises up I’m round there sharpish and clearing it out.

I’m over ammo capacity by 50% at my base too (supposedly deteriorates?) and food, materials and medicine all very comfortable. Fuel is my lowest at 14 and not really an issue.

One of my 6 outposts is an artillery site but not yet called in a barrage or whatever I suppose it’ll allow.

I guess once I’ve killed the final plague heart I’ll move on. How many new areas are there, or is it an infinite spawning number of areas?

just 4 maps for the main game and the SoD1 map for the Heartland DLC (free on GP).

I've played this loads the last week.

Stupidly started off playing on the very hardest difficulty setting because:
1. I finished the first one and didn't think it was too hard
2. I didn't think the resource aspect had too much actual consequences. People were a bit unhappy - so what!
3. Some of the achievements are difficulty related and it's not the type of game I think I'd replay.

The tutorial went well enough. Then came the main game.

The character who gets the blood plague in the tutorial pretty much turned into a zombie as soon as I got to camp. Blood plagues not in the first one so I didn't know what I was doing. 1 down.

I then left the camp, walked straight into a feral who ripped me to shreds. 2 down.

I left the camp again with the solider type character planning on shooting the feral. It avoided my shots chased me back into camp and killed my 2 remaining characters.

Game over after about 5 minutes.

I've then had another couple of goes, working my way down the difficulty settings. It doesn't take very long for most of your characters to end up with blood plague, injuries or tiredness. You can't get much done, morale drops etc etc. I'd also been skipping the tutorial for quickness but it means you only start with 3 characters none of whom have a gun.

I was quickly getting into hopeless positions so I started again on the setting one up above the normal and did the tutorial. I've managed a lot better this time.

Didn't have anyone die for quite a while. First person died when doing a plague heart. I find bringing someone along to do the plague hearts doesn't help as they just get in the way.

Was actually feeling quite comfortable but then a zombie hoard, including a juggernaught attacked the base. I managed to kill it and keep everyone alive by the skin of my teeth. Been struggling to get back on top of things since.

I pay more attention to morale on this one. I think one thing I did wrong was just build whatever I thought was best where as it's better to see what improves the camp morale and/or build depending on what skills your community has.

Also got one guy who pisses everyone off. Kept taking him out on crazy missions thinking it wouldn't matter if he died but he's survived them all and is now one of my best characters.
