Steam remote play

After hearing good things about Steam remote play I decided to give it a go today and I'm finding it does not work all that well for me. My setup is a MacBook Pro (2014) as the client connect to my TV with a Desktop running Ubuntu (8GB Ram, i3, some Nvidia graphics card, it is from 2010) as the host. Now I know the hardware is old but I was only trying stuff like the point and click game Blackwell legacy so nothing pushing the host machine at all. I have connected both my MacBook and the desktop to a switch via ethernet and even tried disconnecting the internet incase my stream was going out over the internet between host and client instead of a direct connection.
Anyone got any tips or things to try? Is it just that despite trying an simple game remote play itself requires a lot of power to work?
